Eir is the Norse goddess of medicine. She is who I pray to for healing and for other's healing. She is associated with healing, mercy, and medicine/herbs. She is not against death - after all, Mercy may require it. So if you pray to her, realize that if death is better than healing for the individual, she will allow death to occur.

I once called upon her for a pet - I asked for healing or a painless death - whichever was better (and I knew the answer). My pet died shortly after, quick, painless, and in my arms. I knew Eir new best and I was greatful for her help.

The Disir. Not gods but hey that's how is works in my path. LOL
Now for ADVICE, it depends on what's going. Most times I just throw it out there and see who answers.
In home hearth and children I invite Frigga
For love and sex, I invite Freyja. Though I tend to call her for lots of things because I feel close to her.
For one certian thing I talk to Odin because that's who answered the first time I asked it.
And Thor made a rather dramtic enterance into my life recently. Not sure what to make of that one lol
So it just depends.

(Ok, technically I'm non-theistic. But even viewing the gods as archetypal, I can answer this.)

I evoke Athena or Chiron. I find that the Greek pantheon has more of an association with healing for me.

Normally I stay generic, Glorious Goddess, Gracious God, but with my son's frequent, long stays in crisis units and residential placements for behavioral problems, I found myself asking Demeter for the strength to make it with out him, as she has Persephone.

Dian Cecht, or his daughter Airmid. And the Ancestors, too, though that's more a general category than a specific being.

If it involves my knee, I pray to Dr. Adams.
For anything else I make my prayers to Dr. Parsley.
