No, it's not a smart idea if you play a lot of sports because at my school if you're on a team you're not aloud to wear any earrings/body jewelry. Sweat won't actually cause an infection because your body is immune to it's own fluids, but the dirt which accumulates while you're playing would be a problem. It might also irritate the new piercing if you're moving around that much. I'm all for piercings, I have my belly button done and I love it, but you should wait until you're done with sports to make sure you can let it heal right.

If you are playing sports then I don't recommend it. I've had my belly button pierced twice, because the first time I went a parlor where they just pierced me and let me go.
The thing was fine for 6 months and then I started working out and stressing out before a trip abroad. It got infected. I just took it out.
When I moved back State side, graduated uni and started working I got it pierced again. The parlor I went to had the best cleanser for it and I didn't change it for six months. (Unlike the first time, I changed it after 3 months).
It's fine now a year later.
So my overall advice is to just wait, especially since a piercing is just for you. When I got mine done and I didn't really show anyone. I loved it, but it was just for me.
If you still want it done, wait until you're working or something partly less physically active, find a great parlor with a great rep, and follow instructions. Or you'll end up getting it done twice like me. Good luck.

Yeah, I'm with Lila-- Most girls I know who have done this have not enjoyed this particular peircing. Evidently the incidence for infection is very high, the healing process is very slow, because of its location it will constantly be knocked red, sore and ugly. If you lived in a bikini and laid around 24/7 it might work, but sounds to me like you're not that kind of girl.

I think you answered your own question. I tried getting mine pierced once and lasted about 3 months. My BF talked me into it. I hated it the whole time and it never did heal right. I always felt self conscious with it and hid it from ppl. It felf awful with anything against it and you are right, it can become infected quite easily. Go with your instincts. You sound like a smart girl!

Don't get one, it will take forever to heal if you are sweating all the time (they take ages anyway if you aren't), and the chance of it tearing out is quite high I'd say.

Most of the answers in this POLL have already made the decision for you not to do it. My answer for you to do it is also "NO".
Most of this pondering 'doit', 'doit', comes really from peer pressure....or just because everyone else has it you want one to 'JUST TO FIT IN THE CROUD'.
Same goes for smoking and drinking...we all do it just to fit in the crowed. I have never done drugs, smoke or worse even pierce my body..yet I have all kinds of friends that are into this. They only asked me once and I said 'NO'. Well here I am now...no drugs, no smoking, and most of all no piercing. I feel good about myself.
Don't do it!
