WOW you live in the same la-la land i do.... thinking people actually came to this site to learn about something. gracious seems like all many of us do is try and combat stupidity!
i believe it is necessary to understand others religions to be able to understand each other. i don't condemn someone for their choices - except my friends but that's different ; ) i may pray for them and get in heated debates (in a good way) but will not condemn them. i had a nun in high school who explained to us in our world religions class - as long as someone's religion taught them to - do good & avoid evil - the could one day come to be Christians so we shouldn't judge them - only love and show them the love of Christ.

how do you know a religion isn't right for you if you know nothing about it. it's nice to have a broad knowledge base, it helps when we deal with other people. i agree with trinity, in that having some understanding of others religions stops us giving offence, accidentally. and it is all about religious tolerance, if we were all a little more tolerant of each other regarding religion, race etc. think of all the things wrong in the world, that would be different. sit down and watch the news and count how many stories could have been avoided, or the outcome could have been different, in a positive way.

i totally agree with you!! people here think that by questioning religion that they would understand about things and stuff, it's wrong even if this site is all about questions and answers!..people are not robots they have emotions and making fun of their religion just to get answers will not help at all!!!do not expect every religious person to know EVERYTHING about their religion!!!...they are religious because they BELIEVE in it!!! that's not bad!! it's real and if anyone has any problem with that then don't interfere with them!!!! shouldn't peace be the main purpose on this section???
some people here claim that it's yahoo answers and they should ask to know and to understand others, well you can ask decent question like:" how do you pray?", "how do you practice your religion in your country?"..etc....etc
and not the kind that goes like that:" is your god a liar?"!!!!!!! i mean DON'T you have any respect at all???????????
that is not a question, and it's just an example ..you can find Lot's of questions that are mean and ridiculous around here!!
listen if you believe in your religion then good for you! but don't interfere with other religions and don't harass those who do not believe in any religion!, for those who do not believe in anything don't try to find faults in religions(in general)...
WE SHOULD RESPECT EACH OTHER!..period
~have a nice day~

History tells us that wars are fought, and groups of people are murdered within a country, such as the past Jewish pogroms because of Religious zeal. In my opinion part of the problem the U.S. has in Iraq is some of the citizens are still angry about the Medieval Crusades and they feel they are still fighting the infidel. As educated indviduals, it seems to me it would be worthwhile to understand these differences in Religion, especially when dealing with other cultures to promote understanding and tolerance.

Understanding each other religions help us to understand that we are worshiping the same God through different channels. God is so great. He allows us to worship HIM in the way we understand him. We can worship HIM as one, or as three in one or in the form of idols as long as we find peace with God. There is no answer which religion is the right path. We need to respect each other religion to maintain harmony and peace on earth.

Any religious can bring people to enlightenment but none of them can bring people to enlightenment as per people only going into the words of hollyman nor the words of hollybook. The word FIRE will not burn you but the real fire will.
The way of enlightenment is not only following the hollybook nor the words of hollyman will be. We must understand the words compare with other religious why they are doing these or that then come back to see our rules of religious. You will understand more then you are making a car in your garage but the size cannot go out of door. The compare and disscussion is to show us the right way. The doing of the rules are really to understand.

nicely, became raised in a kin it rather is someplace between non-practising RC and agnostic, yet I immediately grew to develop into an atheist (by utilising age 10). Over the subsequent 8 years, as i observed extra of the international and learnt extra philosophy extremely than merely technology, my stance softened, first to agnosticism, till i began out to locate paganism. i'm now eclectic (yet attempt to be responsibly so). think of of me as a million/2 norse, a million/2 roman, yet with the advantages of modern-day philosophy and technology, and a few gnostic leanings. hence of being eclectic, my ideals are in a persevering with state of progression, and each and every time i come upon new philosophies, i learn the way the relate to my present day paradigm, greatest to a pair amalgamation of different concepts over the years, and that i additionally attempt to think of freely, in the desire of having some form of unique concept some day.

What are you saying? You ask why it is necessary to understand then you go on a diatribe against the questions and comments. Are you trying to ask why people are resistant to understanding? Or why people are proselytizing? If we didn't post questions and answers, how would people looking for answers find them?

You can find people to talk to here, you just need to turn on your internal "jerk" filter.
People do have a right to choose their own path. Other "religions" can be very interesting and quite often you can find that there are lots of similarities between them.
The main thing is respect. I don't ask people to understand my faith, or to even condone it. All I ask is to respect my decision. If you want to make a point to me... go ahead, just please don't attack me personally. ( Example: All pagan girls are fat, ugly, & sluts. .... I'm not any of these things AND my weight, my beauty, nor my sexual habits have anything to do with my choice of faith.)
We can learn from each other, if we all stop trying to decide who's right, righteous, or torment bound.
Peace.
