If a hypothetical god only answers "yes", "no", and "wait" (or answers you affirmatively, negatively, or lets you wait), can you expect the same thing from any object, for example, a milk jug? people ask me why I am hateful to the idea of a god, and I tell them because he never did anything that couldn't have been coincidence, and then they ask me "why do you look at the past" or something similar to that. this is about the same as praying for 10 things, multiple times, having 1 "answered" and forgetting the 9 that weren't "answered" and being convinced that because 1(out of 10) prayer was "answered" then there must be a god. is this logical?

I don't believe in god or religion, however if I started to pray right now for things I am sure I could get an answer.

If I prayed for big things like world peace, win the lottery, the ability to fly etc. The chances are they won't happen, on the other hand if I prayed for a nice meal at dinner time or to have a pleasant nights sleep, it will more than likely happen.

Those who pray for smaller things are just conditioning themselves into believing the unbelievable. Those who pray for bigger things will become disheartened and will either stop praying or stop believing. This pattern of thought is similar to someone who takes up exercise, starts off with one big goal and gives up after a couple of weeks. Or a person who gives themselves small goals will more than likely stick at it.

However if the people who are making elaborate prayers have one of them answered they my see that as a miracle and conformation that 'god' exists, even if it is just a coincidence.

Either way everyone's lives will carry on as before, no matter what people pray for, which we will continue to evolve and expand our knowledge of what makes us tick!

Prayer is not about making GOD your own personal genie-in-a-bottle, ready to grant your every wish. Prayer is about developing a relationship with your Father. The more and more you pray - quite surprisingly, the less and less selfish your prayers become.

Now it seems - the things I pray for the most are peace of mind and wisdom in spirit - and God has no trouble answering those prayers every single time!

Firstly, God is not hypothetical. And God's answers aren't literally in the form of word-symbols we use like "no" and "yes" and so on. Objects like milk jugs can not even do that much, either. LOL. And if your idea about god is such it is no wonder you are hateful of it. God hates people to think that sort of thing about him too, so you are right to hate that for sure. ROTFL.

Prayer is not just there for the purpose of asking for things. That is purely selfish, and the sort of thing immature, puerile, juveniles do. God does hear every prayer. Every prayer without exception even those which are silly and ridiculous. There is nothing at all a person can ask God that would surprise him, but sometimes the prayers are just things God won't do.

Depending on what the prayers are, the intention of the prayers, and the level of importance with regard to the eternal value and affairs of the people you're praying about or for, then it follows that this All-Wise All-Knowing Heavenly Parent would treat those petitions according to the most high wisdom.

If a prayer appears to not have been answered, then one need only look at what was being asked.

Prayers can sometimes be requests that are, in actuality, very complicated to answer. But if your prayers are sincere, unselfish, realistic, and wholly worthy then certainly you will at some point realize the resolution and therefore the answer.

Many times, because of the way humanity lives, breathes and does things, because of the society, because of the level of understanding, because of the level of spirituality or non-spirituality, because of the design of the growth of the human race, the answers to prayers manifest in common and practical ways. All this practicality is the way God made it to be. He is always perfectly practical. Every day living is the way of God.

Sometimes problems can overwhelm us in every day living. If the prayer is about solving those problems, why would anyone expect God to solve them for us? He gave it to us to live our lives and to learn how to problem solve. The perfect parent does not step in and solve problems for their children when their children are perfectly capable of solving those problems on their own, and when they are not, God sends help - the practical way - what is taken for granted in life, the people that help you and me, and those we help is truly miraculous - we just don't realize that because it is seems so common place. Yes. WE human beings do answer many of those prayers.

Human beings are to help other human beings through this life. It was designed so that people are to work in cooperation in families and to form cultures and societies and nations. It is inherent because everyone is unique and has their own skills and talents to contribute to the whole.

A wise parent expects his children to utilize their own God-given skills and talents to get along in life. We are expected to learn the best ways we can do things ourselves.

God is not all-magical. People have the ability to reject God, and to accept God. People have the ability to know God. They have will... the ability to choose...volition. This is a gift we all have and must learn to use every moment of every day.

Making decisions is fundamental to the thought processes of the human mind. Every action and reaction is a decision of that same mind. Every prayer made is a decision to go to God and ask him something.

Because within each of us is a piece of God, we don't have to speak out loud to him when we pray. In fact, we don't even have to form the words except and unlesss the self needs to, but God knows the desires of the soul before we can even think to form the words.

So often, we people get so caught up in materialism, and being materialistic, that we overlook the things that have true, and everlasting value. Those things that make a strong and good character are just some of them. Selfish prayer is not wholly worthy of a mature individual who has embarked on the path of life which hones the skills of becoming a good and great character - one with a strong and sturdy philosophy to live by.

So, your question about whether the one is answered and the nine is ignored is not logical because we do not know what the prayer was and if they were inappropriate prayers, or if they were answered and the unspiritualized mind missed the answer.

Only spirit can know spirit. It is your spirit that leads you to God, and when you find God you will certainly know it - it won't be intellectualized the way you are appearing to do it in your questioning, but instead it will be a deep soul knowingness.

So, as a side note, go ahead and buck those silly notions about God. You are right to do that much, but you do make a mistake to discount God's existence all together just because some of the notions you've heard about him have been incorrect.

Best of luck with those prayers ~ StudiousOne

Your name says it all, and since you think of your hypothetical god as just that, hypothetical, it is no wonder that prayers are not answered. As for me, my God has answered many prayers that I have prayed and He has given me many blessings,(Too many to count) that I didn't even ask for and wasn't even excepting. So instead of asking you hypothetical god for anything, why not try my God. There is a road map in the Bible (KJV) that will show you the way to Him. Romans10:9-13. "Try Him You'll Like Him"

I am not to sure on the words of jesus, but one must seek out their own spiritual truths.
If the christian God does not work for you, there are plenty of other versions out there to try, or better yet, come up with your own concept!

All prayers are answered, they are just not always what it is we want....

I saw the video too. But your right, the concept of God answering prayers in that manner is utterly absurd.
