I am confused about what job I should do. I wondered if anyone had any good tips or knew of any good websites that offer career advice. Or should I see a careers consultant?
I have loads of education that I havent used I have also had many different jobs in different fileds of work although have not found what I want in life. I have a passion for animals, esp horses I have a BSC equine I also enjoy helping others and have a community and criminal justice HNC, and exp working for local govt. I have my licencee and passed exams in pub trade. I also have exp in admin/ secretary/ case management. I am currently working in insurance as a consultant. My CV is looking like a nightmare as I have had so many jobs and each job I do I realise I dont like it but have not found what I do like. I need to settle in a job but seem to get more confused the more jobs I have! I am 26. I also seem to dislike my current job more than all the rest as I am finding it completely boring.

You need to analyze your interests and abilities and make an informed decision. I would highly recommend the book "What Color is Your Parachute?" which is updated annually. You may be able to find last year's edition second-hand or remaindered for cheap. The book includes a lot of detail about how to analyze your skills and interests, and to match them with various career paths.

There are probably plenty of web sites from various professional associations and the like, and I know the U.S. Department of Labor has a huge amount of information, although it is not always easy to find your way around their web site. (Or wasn't when I was working with it over a year ago. Might have been upgraded, but it IS a bureaucracy, so . . .)

At the age of 26, it's not that unusual to still be casting about for your proper niche. But don't put it off longer. The older you get, the worse it looks that you have taken so long to decide.

Don't be afraid of the idea that you may need more education. You may be able to get a job in the area where you want to be, and then take classes at night. In many areas, the employer will pay for schooling if it is in their interests. This is especially true in high-tech areas where things change so quickly.

Good luck!

first of all, your CV can be a really positive sign of having lots of different experinces, working in different work atomspheres, so don't put yourself down.
Many people get to 40 & still don't know what they want to do, so don't worry.
My advice would to work with animals, it's so rewarding & you'll love it. I think u could also contact Learn Direct at 0800100 900 where they give free careers advice, you could ask them for example you would like to work with animals, & would like to now your options, how best to go about it, do you need further training etc..
Also, slow down & pace yourself, i used to get flustered with too much info & too much analysis, first don't think about it at all for a day & just relax. Then, if it's still not clear, write down any thoughts on a paper & leave it to one side & you'll become clearer about it.

i hate counseling, advising, and help offered. find yourself and do some soul-searching. i don't quite get the concept of finding "yourself," but we need each other. how are we meeting "our" own Personal Needs?
