Perhaps you could email him and send attached pics/videos back and forth with a small computer digital camera ? One of those round ones that set on top of the computer.
If he is with his father or other relatives, then hopefully he is safe and well. Just take comfort in that and pray for a way to open up that you can see him again.
Ok, as for no money and no car...
For doctor visits try calling the public health department to find out about low cost clinics. You could maybe try to apply for SSID (social security income disability). Apply for food stamps if your income is low enough. Call 211 to link up to first link and the food bank (different from food stamps).
Try Montel's www.pparx.org for free or low cost medicines. They hook you up with drug manufacturers who will help out.
Cars are cheap at Volunteers of America auctions and the like.

See bipolar disorder, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris in section 10. In N.C., and PE , WalMart has Lithium carbonate at $4/month's supply. Use the treatments for depression, in section 2. Are you on, or have you applied for disability? Contact your county/local mental health agency, to see how they can help, and try the 1-888-477-2669 number, for subsidised bipolar medications ( the www.pparx.org phone no.). Could you do babysitting, and try the more lucrative online surveys? There are always savings that can be made around the home; visit your library, and read books on household tips, and how the pioneers managed with very little. I wear old clothes at home, saving the good ones for going out, and eat little meat; rarely eating out, but have a well balanced diet. Are you entitled to food stamps? Go to http://www.usda.gov/fsp/ Approach charities, and find out if they can help. Although I sympathise with your position, you may have to wait a while, so use that time to try and get better. I hope that this is not the case, but prepare yourself, in case it is.

Your first duty is to yourself. If you are not well, you can't be ok to be with your son.
You don't say where you are, so I don't know how far you need to travel. Neither did you say if you would be welcome where he lives.
If you want to see him lots, you could contact your local tv station. Very often, a public appeal such as yours is answered quickly. People can be quite kind if you give them the chance.
Tell your tv newsman your story and ask to make a public appeal for help to see your son for Christmas. If you start your trip, put me down for $10. If you decide you can't make the trip, please don't cry and stay in bed. Go into your own community and find a child who will have no Christmas or gift and share with that child. You will find real joy in that.
Good luck!!
Be good to yourself

I am just guessing but could you go back to whoever was at the psych hospital for help. Call them and ask what you can do and that you don't have any money etc. Just a thought.

You could be suffering from anxiety from the thought of seeing you son agian. Find some higher power. Be it God, Buddha, that five armed elephant thing. Then focuse on it. Its a little quirky and dumb but it helped me through stuff.
