I am on a dual boot XP/UBUNTU Linux machine right now. It is so freaking nice. The ONLY reason I am not on UBUNTU only is because I am a gamer and I still need xp. UBUNTU is one of the easier versions for windows users to get used to. There will be a learning curve no matter what version you use, but it is not as great a curve with Ubuntu. Best of all ALMOST any software you could ever need with Linux is FREE and LEGAL. Not to mention Linux is light years more secure than windoze. It is just a better all around experience with Linux.

It's best to have both. I wouldn't abandon Windows on a whim. You may find a piece of hardware may not work on Linux because there is not a Linux compatible driver available - especially for scanners. Having said that you should be able to run most hardware on Linux.
There is also a some software not available in Linux that is available for Windows.

Don't like Vista.
XP is ok.
Love Linux.

Try a Live cd from Ubuntu and see what you think.
A live cd runs from your cd/dvd rom and don't install anything if you don't want to.

Yes we are all agreed that Ubuntu is the way forward, you can download and create a Live CD.

You can use the Live CD to get the feel of things without installing.

Q! is dead on.

He forgot to mention that Ubuntu runs as a Live CD so you can try it out without installing it on your PC. Just make sure all your hardware is supported before installing to your hard drive.

And be careful, if you want to dual-boot with Windoze. It's no fun when you accidentally delete XP.
