2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Surely he would know what would happen. Isn't that entrapment?

No Michelle darling, god made us deliberately disobedient then puts big tempting naughty things in front of us, then punishes us for doing them. Can you not see rather a large problem with that concept? Isn't it just a tiny bit wrong to you?

You don't get it, if god is omnipotent and omnipresent and every thing else you claim, he new EXACTLY what he was doing and how Adam and Eve would behave...

It is true that God knew exactly what men would do, But when God first created Adam & Eve they both was sinless, These 2 trees is 2 laws of reproduction, If Eve had eaten from the tree of life Then in God's due time that desire to bring another offspring would have set into Eve body, & she would have went to Adam & they would have all offspings born with eternal life, But that old serpent which was a upright creature before the curse, enticed Eve to partake in a relationship for the sole purpose of pleasure only, That is where she partake from the tree of knowledge of good & evil,, Watch the curse now, God curse the serpent first, & took all his limbs away from him. Gen. 3:14, Then God curses the womens reproductive organs, Right there she lost the knowledge of when she can concieve, Then God does Not curse Adam, but he cursed the ground for his sake, & since that worker(the serpent) was no longer Adam worker, Then Adam would have to earn his living by the sweat of his face, God does not entrap anyone, satan does. Read JUDE verse 14, Enoch is the 7th from Adam, then read Gen. chapter 5 & run Adam's seed line, Cain was NOT a son of Adam, but of the serpent, Come on & run Adam's seed line, If you put Cain as a son of Adam then Enoch would have to be # 8, But Jude says Enoch is the 7th from Adam.

The tree of knowledge of good and evil was a symbol of God's right to rule, to decide what was right or wrong in regard to his subjects.

It was a test that put no one to hardship. They had plenty of food so that they didn't have to worry about that aspect of the problem.

Thus when they disobeyed they rejected God's theocracy that one must obey willingly and of free will. This is how God wants to rule. God does not want an armed force of policemen, an army of soldiers to keep people in control.

He wants people to obey out of free will because it is in their own self interest and because they love him as their Father.

The possibility of something happening was there, but in no way a certainty. If heaven hadn't fallen apart first so that Eve was caught while still truly ignorant about things -- this would probably not have occurred.

Surely we know this is not literal.I think it is a metaphor for the attainment of conscienceness. Before then,we were dumb beasts, not burdened by a conscience,in a "garden of Eden"with only living to worry about. At some point,we attained self awareness, began to wonder "why",and began the no return process from "innocence".I was watching the animal channel the other night with my wife.We were watching a program on Orangutans.I was commenting how similar they are to us,my wife commented how sometimes they masturbate even.without thinking,I just said"But they haven't partaken of the fruit"they don't think they are doing anything "wrong".Just my opinion anyway

Where is this actual physical tree? Show me it? How do you know God made it? I think it is more of a metaphor, helping us to see that as we grow, there are many branches that are offered to us - that we may or may not take, we may branch out into good choices,me may take forks into "bad" avenues. We come from roots but who knows where we can go?

The creatures are more fun to watch if you give them some latitude.

Of course it is. If god is all-knowing he would already have know that this would have happened well before even creating the whole world.
Therefore the logically conclusion is that the concept of god being all-knowing, all-loving and all-powerful is flawed.

I agree with the free will comment. It could possibly been a symbol of free will.

It was to give Adam and Eve a choice of free will. It is just that plian and simple.

Life is a series of choices, decisions and consequences - and it has been that way from the very beginning.

The sooner you figure that out, the better off you'll be!
