The Bible is God's word. It is living and active as a guide for his children so it will mean different things to different people depending on their life situation.
Think of it this way. If you read Matthew 6 it says:
19"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Now let's say someone was praying about whether or not they should sell their house, this passage may say to them that yes, you should sell your house.
Someone else may be wondering if they should buy a new tv or maybe they are just obsessing about a flat screen. This may say to them, to refocus on God.
There are a lot of possibilities.
The key is actually to have regular prayer time and time to read the bible and reflect on it, so that when you pray, God is given a chance to answer. Don't call him up and talk and talk and talk and ask a bunch of questions then hang up and not let him answer.
It's a relationship. If we Christians get hung up on doctrine and religion, we lose the relationship, which is what God really wants and what we really need.

The interpretation of the bible, by Christians or whoever it may be, is just that - an interpretation. An interpretation to suit whatever the needs are of that particular group at the time, be it Christians, fundamentalist Christians or whoever. It is to control the masses.
My thoughts are (though I am not entirely convinced of the existence of god) that the bible contains messages, through story and mythology, for our spiritual and moral development. It is up to us as individuals how we are to interpret its writings, and for us to grow as spiritual beings.

To get the chaff and the wheat, the sheep and the goats, divided. Paul in Galatians 1:10 said this:
"10For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? or am I striving to please men? if I were still pleasing men, I should not be a servant of Christ."
Some serve God and Christ for the human recognition, others for the mammon, the riches present day churches gather.
So, do we truly serve God according to truth (not church truth) and for God's approval, not human approval?
Do we study the word, so as to gather the truth about various dogma. The truth, the spirit, the faith, and holy works sanctifies.

he does not encourage it
Satan does and men fall for it
the bible is perfect (KJV) and salvation is simple
men have made it harder by adding Mary worship, works, baptism, a pope, rules, rituals, catechism, sacraments. None of which are scriptural.

There's a horny horned goat man
named Satan
He writes confusion in
bobble-ray eyes
