There was a time 20 years ago when the Met office failed to forecast the 'Hurricane'
Ever since then have you noticed that strong winds now become severe gales,......heavy rain results in dozens of flood warnings....and now the possibility of a tidal surge results of evacuations....
What it boils down to, is that the Met office would much rather be very safe than sorry, so always give the most pessimistic forecast....suppose they don't want to be sued.

i live in this part of the uk and the sea was scarey enough thanks and over the years we have had some major flooding ruinning thousands of homes but it never made nation news untill last week, but we have since had a few sea defences put in around the coast! it may of not been as bad.. maybe it was just that these defences are working and we need to make sure we erect more so more low lying homes are saved and we can then say on here it was over hype! i would rather have that happen knowing these are working that see our home ruined again because our greedy government and builders keep building homes in areas they should not be and messing with the natural process of our rivers seas and wetlands! and then moaning when we get flooding! as homer would say "doh!"

Yesterday global warming was being blamed for the tidal surge, today it was because of global warming that the surge was a dud. (the ice caps melted and there was too much water in the oceans)

I guess Bush changed his mind and decided not to wipe out East Anglia after all.

Better safe than sorry don't you think? I fear that too many people will start to see these warnings as the boy who cried wolf. This will cause a lot of grief amongst families who stop heeding the warnings.

If civilization deny's global warming as invalid, then ban ki moon is wasteing his time going to flyover the diminishing antarctic icecap which profoundly brilliant scientist's are saying can cause the flooding as envisioned in the day after tomorrow, and other harrowing thriller's, which to me are our future, if we keep pumping carbon to thermallly blanket our once blue planet's old climatic warm and cold cycle's. I think the opposite of your type, that no time is left to prevent massive surge's in near future, and it's caused by fog inside your brain, denying simple truth's.

Just because it wasn't as bad as was feared doesn't mean it didn't happen! An outlet of the River Orwell i passed today was extremely swollen and had flooded the footpath.

the first note that is composed of my options after I hear England is - Richness. properly I hear that value of living in England is really severe, i'm speaking about the comforts. I also hear, human beings obtainable are also somewhat biased & proud. reminiscent of strolling with their nostril continuously contained in the air. that is purely because regrettably I absolutely have such neighbours. yet of route the position must be visited to really recognize. i recognize that the position is somewhat beautiful otherwise.

Not really, just that after the storms in 87 was it?, the public said they weren't well enough informed and weren't given enough time to protect themselves, so I guess it's an advance warning just in case.
