Hi, I just got a dog 2 days ago to keep my jack russel company. She was a free to good home and is a 1y/o Maltese not spayed and lived with her mother and father (dogs) which are a breeding couple. When i got her, her fur had been let go and when i gave her a haircut i noticed she had enlared nipples that are seeping milk i cant feel anything in her belly, but arent completly sure what to feel for. Is she pregnant? if so how far do you think and also she must have bred with her father, will the puppies be ok?

I'm sure she hasnt had puppies recently as her nipples are still tiny but larger than normal (if you know what i mean) My friends dog had puppies not too long ago so i know what the nipples look like after puppies. They were getting rid of all 3 dogs as they had to move into a rental unit that wouldnt alow dogs and when we went to see them she was the one we picked. Thanks guys :) I cant feel anything in her belly, she doesnt play much and sleeps most of the time on my lap. But generally do you guys think she is pregnant?

your vet will be able to x ray her, if she is expecting and she has milk she can be as far away as 10days or so and any where in between. its not ideal to breed with her dad, but the pups should b alright, but why did they give her away, as they must have kept her to breed with, has she got any faults inherited and if she has . the pups could b more likely to inherit the same faults, this doesn't mean they wont make good pets, iv had a litter where this happened and found good homes for them . they are all doing well and and all but 1 are with children so dont worry, as said the vet is 1st on the list, lets hope its a false pregnancy common when there are more than 1 breeding ***** in the home.

There is a possibility
The best thing is take her to the vets and get a sonogram.
This way you know if she is preg. and know about how many to expect. Also these toy breeds often need c-sections so it would be best to know.
I have some of my bitches that start with the milk 2 weeks before and others not until labor so hard to say.

This is a new dog and a vet visit is in order.
I hope the "breeding" couple finds a good home that will spay and neuter them for God's sake.

Take her to the vet and have the vet x-ray her, he can tell you if she is too far to spay or not. Get her spayed as soon as possible if you end up needing to have this litter. She still could be up to a week off if she even has milk.

63 to 65 days is the gestation period for dogs not 100
I wouldn't be at all surprised if she had already had them and the previous owners are hand feeding. They will then register the pups as coming from your dogs parents. A con in the offing.

the chances are shes having a phantom pregnancy, have your vet check her out, and if by any chance she has had a litter, contact the kennel club with her details, as anything is possible, not every1 is as honest as you may think, if she is pregant the pups should make good pets.

When you get a new dog, pup or mature, your very first trip should always be to your vet.
Perhaps do it now?

Well, since there's no such thing as a little pregnant I'd say "really pregnant" LOL Just take it to a vet for an xray.

She'll be okay, I think. Just to be sure, when dogs are pregnant, they don't want to stand, run and exercise too much. Maybe she's about a few days/weeks pregnant. Dogs are pregnant in 3 months(100 days) and my dog was pregnant. So, don't let her be harmed, okay?
