Basically the rule of thumb is 1 lb per person for any meat. But if you want lots of leftovers go for 15 lbs.

I usually buy a 12 to 15 lb turkey and about a 6-8 lb turkey breast and I have left overs for the next few days. I feed 7 people.

I always cook the biggest turkey I can buy, so people can eat dinner, relax and go back for more, plus I always have containers for them to take some home. The least I buy is 21 pounds, and there is not usually much left.

Well, for an annual family gathering at Christmas we would usually get a forty to forty five pound turkey to feed upwards of twenty-three people (that's for the large gathering, usually it'd be more around fifteen) and end up with a little left over.

Judith is right. And it is always better when serving guests to have some left over. It would look stingy otherwise.
