or are they aware that they are Protestants to start with?

I've seen a question here about where the name "Protestants" came from and what the Protestants are protesting about, that's why I thought to ask if the majority of Protestants no longer know why they are being called as such.

I think most of us are familiar, at least in principle, with the 95 theses.

i could go into so many details, but i won't bother. trust me, i'm well aware of all the reasons, and all of the arguments from both sides.

now, do you know why i'm called a catholic, but not a *roman* catholic by certain popes? to me, that's a more interesting question.

all i really care about anymore is that we're all still members of the Invisible Church of God, no matter what piddly things we may argue about, or what the sign in front of the building where we worship says. what keeps us together is worth so much more than what seperates us.

ps- mona, we lutherans practice confession and absolution just like the catholics. i could point you to about 17 different scriptures and show you how it's biblical. LOL. luther's first argument was over the matter of selling indulgences for forgiveness. all the other arguments grew from that, not the practice of private confession/ absolution.

the mainline protestants know about history and why they are called protestants. but these Bible-fundamentalists refuse to admit that they are protestants. they are not aware that being a non-Catholic christian makes them belong to the Protestant group whether they like it or not. these people refuse to accept facts because they think they can change it to fit their decided beliefs.

We are basically "protesting" the Catholic Church...which was THE CHURCH until Martin Luther, and millions of others since, broke away.

The first Protestant is follower of Martin Luther, who disagree with a roman catholic church about selling a letter of repentance to their follower.
Luther wanted the christian rules is base on the bible. And it stated on the bible that we only can ask repentance from God. Not a Pastor even a Pope.

The term Protestant was coined by the German Princes plain and simple.
