Read a book. Drink a glass of milk. Do not ever open your eyes when you closed them. Think that you are dreaming and eventually you will fall asleep. The most important thing is turn off your computer after reading some answers and sleep. Make sure your bed is comfy and you have something to hug like your pillow or a teddy bear.

I agree about the melatonin. It comes in tabs up to 3mg, and sometimes that is placed under the tongue to dissolve. Take is one half hour beofre bed. This substance is natural and puts your body in synch with the light/dark cycles outside; so when it is dark, you feel sleepy. Warm milk can be helpful. Get any concerns or stressors OUT of your consciousness. A good way to do this is to write out your stressors and burn it. Or if the concerns are more like "all I have to do tomorrow" then make a list so that you can relax, knowing that you do not have to try to remember it all! Allow enough time to get a good night's sleep. Do NOT exercise too late in the day, but DO exercise daily, preferable before 6pm, as that will wake the body up as well. Best of Luck, g'night!

I have insomnia also, the best thing that have helped me is doing plsnty of exercise or being active thorughout the day. I make myself so tired that I just have to sleep.
Fresh air is also very good, prefereably in a park or woods.

Insomnia is often caused by fear, stress, anxiety, medications, herbs, caffeine, depression or sometimes for no apparent reason. Make sure your bedroom is quiet and dark. Soak a tablespoon of mint leaves in a cup of water for an hour, drink every night. Check out http://useinfo-insomnia.blogspot.com/ for more info

It may seem contradictive, but some studies show that if you eat a spoonful of sugar (That's all.... no more, lol) then you will get hyper, but afterwards more tired due to the "rise and fall" properties of sugar.
Read a deep, engrossing novel. I prefer Charles Dicken; he has got to be my favorite. I'd also suggest Arthur Conan O'Doyle with the Sherlock Holmes series.

Valerian root helps many people. You can purchase a bottle of a liquid form. Read the instructions, and drop 10 - 30 drops in a warm beverage, such as tea. That helps most.
Melatonin helps some.
Exercise before bed.
Tryptophan helps with sleep and depression.
A warm bath with lavender, or lavender eye-pillow.
Good luck.
