Unfortunately, for the majority that I've met, it means acting like they are better than everyone else, treating others like crap, etc.

I believe just the act of being saved doesn't change anything really. There is a lot of personal work that comes after that.
If people are saved, they generally desire to be a better person as a result. So I think they do make an effort to be more tolerant, more understanding, more gentle. For me, it has changed the way I treat people.
PS - of course this does not apply to the self-righteous religious people who think it's a free pass to be judgmental.
It really is a shame that religious people have damaged the perception of "Christianity". I really don't think you can't tell anymore if a person just says they are a Christian.
I think you have to get to know the individual.

Being saved is like a newly conceived baby. The baby is a new creation, but the baby does not know right or wrong. A person that is saved must take time to transform their minds with the word of God so that they will know right from wrong.
Until they do they are no different outwardly.

To Have my sins forgiven and to know the love of God; I am then compelled to love others and try my best to get along with them and be helpful.
When in conversation; I try to listen rather than just talk about myself. When someone is in need I try to help as best I can; Because Jesus met my need by dying for me on the cross.
It also means that i make sure that people i meet know about God being in my life. Then as they see me living my life in front of them they know that anything good i do is because of God. I want Him to get the glory, because it is His grace that enables me to help others.
How then do I respond to people who are different from me, whether lifestyle or religion? With love! I give them the dignity to make their own choices, but I let them know that God loves them. The path before them is their choice. I do not believe in BIBLE THUMPING, but i do believe in letting people know that they are loved by God and that when they have a need I will listen and pray for them.
Does this make me a Super Saint; no! I try to do my best, but am human; like everybody else, and cannot always live up to my own ideals. It is a good job that the people who know me; also know that i am only human. Also , God loves a trier.

Once one is born again one is a new creature, your dealing with other people should be like a tree, the tree is different from the soil, its NOT part of the soil, the bible said, come out from amoung them and be ye holy for I am holy.

I think it helps you to be more understanding and compassionassionate. One never knows the circumstances of someone else's life. As Christian's, it's "usually" easier to just give them to God.

For starters, it looks better and feels fresher on your skin. Then, it also doesn't tickle when you kiss your wife or hug your kids.

From what I see here it makes them hate everyone who does not think the same way as them and condemn them to hell. It also makes them intolerant of anyone different in any way - ie ultra conservative.
Its nasty.

It should encourage people to treat others as they'd like to be treated.

He will think he is superior as compared to other people, hence deal with other people arrogantly.
