It was probably the old oil they use ti cook the chicken and chips, stay away from that rubbish, rather cook your own chips in fresh oil, I doubt it was the beer

More than likely the chicken and chips mate, the procedures for the making and bottling of lager are very much controlled, and hygiene is high on that list it has to be, I am not saying it couldn't happen by lager intake but, I would still go for the Chippy items.

I had food poisioning from chicken one time and it seems like it started about 24 hours after I ate. I'm not a beer drinker, but I would think it could become contaminated by bacteria because of the sugar, yeast, and grain content. Bottled lager is probably less likely because of pasturization and the bottles are sterilized, but on tap, If it wasn't stored properly the container could become one big petri dish. In the US we call it skunky beer, because bad beer has a funky smell. Salmonella poisoning from chicken can last several days and will give you diarhea and vomiting. No matter what caused the problem, drink LOTS of water. It will help get it out of your system, and you won't get dehydrated.

I think it was more than likely to be the Chicken although you can get ill from bad draught beer.
I used to work in a pub and I know the pipes should get cleaned out dilligently when the barrel is changed and the taps should be cleaned every night. Also the glass washers should be cleaned every night as you get a nasty build up of crap and god knows how much bacteria (it looks like red fluff stuff and stinks). I have been lucky enough to work in a bar where it is very clean (chain pub) and been unfortunate enough to work in one where it wasn't so clean (small pub) so I know! The small pub never used the special cleaner to clean the pipes, they never left the taps in soak over night and they never cleaned the glass machine.
So, bad guts from beer could be from:
a. Dirty pipes
b. Pipes that have not had the cleaner flushed out of them thoroughly.
c. Dirty beer taps.
d. Bacteria filled glasses.
Unfortunately, you cannot usually tell how clean a pub is from the punters side of the bar.

Probably the chicken. Salmonella only takes a short while to kick in. I once drank some unpasteurized milk that was tainted. Two hours later I was sick as a dog. That's likely the type of food poisoning you had.

Actually, it is impossible to get food poisoning from beer. True, you could get it from something that is added to the beer later (like the last person said, from the lines not being clean) and you can obviously get sick from drinking too much, but the alcohol in the beer kills all the bacteria that makes us sick during the fermenting process. So you can rule out the beer. Once again, this just goes to show that it is the greatest beverage on the face of the earth.

There is a tavern in the town
Where my true love sets them down
I had a few with some people who I met -
It must be something that I ate
Fare thee well, for I must leave you
Tho I know that it may grieve you
But my friend I can't decieve you
That we two must part
I had a few with Mike and Jim
Just a shandy to begin
And then some more when some birds came through the door
I can't think why I'm feeling poor!

If it was the chicken then you would have been in agony. It could have been dirty oil, that would upset you & make you sick. Or perhaps you might just have had a 24 hour bug!!!
