Anyone know the history?

There is a theory that Christians in the fourth century assigned December 25 (the Winter Solstice on the Julian calendar) as Christ's birthday (and thus Christmas) because pagans already observed this day as a holiday. This theory is much disputed, as the dates of Saturnalia are not coincident with Christmas. A more refined argument is that Christmas was set on the feast of Sol Invictus, which was on December 25, and which had supplanted Saturnalia. However, others claim that early Christians independently came up with the date of December 25 based on a Jewish tradition of the "integral age" of the Jewish prophets (the idea that the prophets of Israel died on the same dates as their birth or conception), and a miscalculation of the date of Jesus' death. [1] A theory has been advanced that the establishment of the feast of Sol Invictus on December 25 was an attempt by Aurelian to co-opt the day already celebrated by Christians for a pagan festival

I've been told that a pagan holiday was already being celebrated @ the time of Christ. Therefore, people just changed it from a pagan holiday to Christ's birthday. I don't believe a word of it! The Bible speaks for its self. Anyone who doesn't celebrate Easter and Christmas w/ every Christian aspect I believe is in error and committing a sin.

Invaders (yes thats who) if they win, they change things, it does not mean that the new thing is any better than the old thing, or that it is "right" or correct. Its all down to bullying, Remember tales of the Spanish Inquisition, of Witch trials, of the leading of the masses in order to control them through the fear of "God"? Bah! Well, theres a choice, people can keep on being sheep & following those "faiths" which state that "God" is an anthropomorphic thing, sitting oin a throne, on a cloud, playing a harp all day, With a Son, thats no better. Or, they can wake up, realise that all people are created female, (Made in "Its" own image". That all (yes All) of the things that go on in a church are based on Pagan Principles. & that they have been misled, lied to, and subjugated (particularly women). Enough is enough!

well to drag us out of the woods and into the churchs away from our fires and understanding of the natural world and our bodies the christians decided that if they could take our holidays and gods and put their own twist on them they could get more money and goods from more ppl. and turn man away from what they did not believe in, those which did not conform were murdered and labled satanist, the moderen satan is just the god Pan only on the oppisite side of good and evil from which he started, they did this with all our gods and ceromonies to more easily disillusion those they wished to control, i want back my Aester also
