technically, you should be eating small meals anyway.

just think; if your stomach has to expand to accomodate the food your eating; you're probably eating too much.

and if you do eat a "fist sized" meal; you'll keep your stomach working at it's peak condition all day long; eating about five or six times a day.

Your empty stomach is roughly the size of your fist, but an average persons stomach stretches to hold between 2 to 4 liters. How much you should eat is a broad debate among so called experts.

An empty stomach is tiny - looks kinda like a really thick walled deflated baloon! But it can stretch out to accomodate a lot more food than its initial size - i don't remember exact figures but its in the vicinity of 1-2 litres!

This is why gastric banding surgery can be useful - it limits the maximum size of your stomach and then, yes, you do have to eat a small meal and so you lose weight.

The stomach is larger than a fist and it can stretch. Think of it as a balloon. That's why you feel a tightness around the waist if you had a large meal.

You are right:

"Even a very obese person's stomach is only about the size of their fist when empty. Stomach's are "elastic" and their stretchability does depend on how much the person normally eats - but the size of your stomach (inside) doesn't have anything to do with having a "pot belly"."

It is the size of your fist until you stretch it out by eating. Or over eating.
