I have seen a number of things on the internet (here, you Tube etc.) Which claim Islam as a "rational" religion.

Does anyone know of a book/paper that details such a claim? I'm looking for a cite-able source.

No, I'm not looking for "stuff about Islam". I am looking for details of Islam's claim to rationality. I am writing a paper on rationality that broadly argues Popper's "Critical Rationalism" against a "foundationalist" rationalism. The Popperian view would be that for anything to be rational it must be capable of being subjected to criticism. Criticism is something Islam will not tolerate: rendering it irrational in Popper's sense. So I need to see why Muslims think that Islam IS rational despite the ban on (or limitation of) criticism.

As the paper may be sent for publication I need a source I can cite (ie to avoid putting "some bloke on you tube" in the bibliography).

Islam is not a rational religion. Not when its followers presecute people of The Baha'i Faith in islamic countries. Acts of that kind are irrational if not down right babaric.
Muslims can be said to be secretly sinister. And I would go along with that.

Read Al-Qur'an.
Everybody has different perspective when they see something. And this is my perspective of Islam, the faith that I keep hold so near to me that I am really afraid to let it go. Maybe I am not such a rational person, maybe I was born as muslim so I put that much faith to this religion, but I believe in Islam, and I know that for myself, Islam is my life.

That is because how rational Islam is.
Islam is a religion that born from the hardness that our Rasulullah (The Apostle of Allah) must endure on it's first years of existence. In that time, muslim is an abused community. Most of them were killed, tortured with inhumane torturing techniques, ignored, humilliated, and violated. The first rational thing that someone should do when they are abused like that, is to find a better place somewhere else, especially if they don't have any power to respond the violation. And so, muslims that day then went to other place. And even when they went to other place, they were still abused. The most rational thing to do if your faith and belief is violated and abused, and you may not keep them even when you are doing nothing, is to fight. And that is what Islam do. Islam teaches people to learn to love each other: humans, animals, and plants and we may not hurt animals and we may not plug out the leaves from its branches, and isn't it rational? We also must not eat unhealthy foods that contain more bacteri than nutrition, except if the condition force us to do so, as we don't have other foods, and isn't it rational? We are told to prevent ourselves from living in luxury, so we give a part of our money to people who need it, because our religion teaches us not to be arrogance and leave others die of starving, and isn't it rational? The Holly Qur'an, the words of our God, told us to let others keep their beliefs, as long as they don't violate our beliefs. There is some verses in Holly Qur'an that sounds like this: lakum dinnukum waliyaddin. It means, our religion is our religion and your religion is our religion. It is verses that teaches us to tell people who don't believe in Islam that we will not join their religion and we will not force them join our religion, and we will not believe in their God and we will not force them to believe our God, because that's it, that your religion is your religion and our religion is our religion. And isn't it rational? And there were also verses that told us to fight when our GOD, our RASULULLAH, our FAITH, our COUNTRY, and our FAMILY is violated. and isn't it rational? Will you give your right cheek when your left cheek is slapped? And if your right cheek was slapped, will you give your back to be stabbed and your stomach to be sliced open? No--for me, it is not rational. And in Islam, no matter what belief your parents hold, as long as they do their tasks as good parents, we must respect them, and isn't it rational to do so to them who have take care of us, when we cried irrationally loud, when we wailed, when we snapped at them without we remembered? Islam, for me, is the most rational religion in this world, in those are just a little of Islam's teaches that rational. If one day you find some muslims doing irrational things, please do not generalize it as Islam's irrationallity. Because even in this world, with the order to unify Islam from Allah swt, for muslims ourselves, there are different perspective of Islam and Holly Qur'an. And after all of this, if you still think that Islam is irrational, even after you read Holly Qur'an (and of course you had better learn about Islam first and then learn about Arabic language first and then read Holly Qur'an, and find tafsir Qur'an that was written by a right person--and it is a book that show us the true meaning of the verses in Holly Qur'an, because it is rather complicated, however it is God's words) then it is your problem. Everybody has different perspective of something, and it is not my fault if this is my perspective, not also the fault of the object is this is my perspective. Because this is what I have learned of Islam, and I have been a muslim from the day that Allah swt made me live inside my mother's belly.
