No I don't. I was a personal trainer for a short time way back when. I didn't like it. Working out for many people is simply common sense. A trainer is primarily a motivator. After a handful of sessions you should know the basics of exercising for your goals.

This question was posted in the cycling section, but the question seems to deal with general fitness. My answer my not be relevant to what you want, because it is cycling specific:

I started working out with a coach 2 years and have seen huge improvements (cat 4 to cat 2 in 2 years!). Coaches have multiple benefits:

1. Mental advantage: On cold rainy days when I just can't push myself, it is nice to know that I am going to have someone to answer to if I get lazy.

2. Access to specialized training gear and techniques: It can get very expensive buying things like heart rate/power output monitors, but a good coach will have both the equipment and the proper knowledge of how to use them.

3. Last, but def. not least, a person with strong ties to the cycling community: My coach had cycled with some great athletes and had worked with numerous companies; knowing people in important positions can really help if you have a problem, especially during a major event.

Don't listen to the answer above. Going to trainer is not a waste of money for everyone. If you are a beginner, want to learn about programs that will work for you, or just need motivation and support, a trainer is a great idea. You can go as often or as infrequent as you want. I used to go every two weeks. Just enough time to do a workout and lay out a plan for me for the coming week. If you need help working out or pacing yourself, go more often. $40 seems about right.
