This affliction seems to be most during the course of an argument - is this intentional or mearly a defence mechanism?

That's such a good question! I used to think that it was actually something that was intentionally done just to win the argument, but after being with my fiance for so long (and trust me...we've had our fights) I think that guys actually start to believe what they tell themselves to be the truth. What I mean is if a guy tells himself (and you) that something happened a certain way, he eventually convinces even himself that it happened that way.

I also think that it has something to do with the fact that as humans (especially in the US) we tend to perceive things in a way that benefits us. Since that's the way they're perceived, that's the way they're remembered. No one is lying. It's just a fact that different people perceive things in different ways.

actually it is only noticed during the fight. try asking him something like that when your not fighting and you will get the same response I bet. we dont remember it unless we really want to.
