I really do not believe in God, but I follow SOME of the morals included in the Bible. The Bible is nothing more to me than a book of stories to make a child follow rules and grow up as "the perfect person."

I have my own views on religion, and I truly feel that religion is nothing but hurtful to people. I attended church, gave god a chance, but there was no so-called "enlightenment." All there was was a ringing in my ears from all of the shouting of the minister and the screechy "Amen!"s. As I've said, I HAVE read the bible. I know I'm going to be seriously flamed in answers to this question, which also goes to my view of the hypocrisy inside of the "Followers" of religion. You just can't accept the idea that someone thinks there is no God.

I'm respectful of people, I'm nice, I do everything to try and be a good person. You would think that that would be enough to counter the atheism tag, but no. I've been persecuted, yelled at, and basicly spit on. By "Believers."

I believe in God and as a mormon am told I am going to hell, had my temples picketed, and basically had what I consider holy and sacred spit on. It isnt just the atheists.

Some people are jerks. That is your answer, lol. Some people, in all walks and beliefs of life, are just plain jerks.

There are some truly hateful atheists, christians, muslims, etc. Every group has its minority of horrible people.

My opinion is that "religion" was created by people who wanted to control a large number of people by telling them what to think and fear. I do believe that God does exist, although not in the way many religions do. I do try to look for the good in all things, and the bible does have very good lessons to teach, parts I do believe are true, although man has interpreted in ways they feel would benefit them. Living a good life is better than most, hope you find your truth!

You sound like you're closer to god than any of these "believers" that spit on you. By the way, that's how they get you into their clan, whatever religion it is, fear and guilt.

Being a good person, being kind, being compassionate, not out of guilt or for selfish reasons, like getting into "heaven" or for "virgins", but because you are; that is what I believe makes a difference. Keep it up. Just be glad they're spitting and not hanging you up on a cross :)

I don't think this is unusual at all. It may be that you are intelligent enough to think for yourself and do not need the prompting of some zealot. I truly believe in religious freedom, if those who want to be christian want to,... let them. But, I do not like to be prompted by some fear or other motivation to become as thwarted in my life as the people who fall for the patriarchic belief structures; i.e. judaism, christianity, islam, etc.

cody.....every person have to answer for themselves in the end.
Paul like you was also an unbeliever.
the Bible never recorded one time that Jesus persecuted or spit on any and there was a lot of unbelievers there.
people are not always what they claim to be and we as imperfect beings sometimes are led to believe if a person say they are a Christan or any religious being that they should be prefect. there are only one that is perfect, yes only one. [JESUS himself said only his Father in Heaven] if a white man would say he was black would that make him black? of course not.
we are NOT [always] what we say we are.
we are what we do no matter what our tongue say we are.
be persuaded in your own heart in what you believe.
no other can take me to heaven or hell. i do that by choosing my own way.
i hope that i have helped you in same small way to see more clearly.
best to you.

if you follow the bible then you know that it says that you need to be saved.

Just because you have had a bad experience in the church you attended doesn't make them all bad you just need to find the one that is right for you. if you become a christian and ask god to guide you he will show you which one is right.

my wife was brought up in the baptist church and things were going on that she was not happy with and neither were her brother and sisters and they tried to tell her mum but she wouldn't listen. several years later mum apologised as she started to see those things for herself. i asked her to go to my church with me which was penticostal and she really liked it as everyone went out of their way to make you feel welcome and when i was going to a hard time last year they prayed for me. They even sent a food parcel with two of the members for us when my wife got out of hospital after having my daughter and they broght her lovely baby presents.

This is proof that not all believers are bad.

You've read the Bible, but have you understood it? There's a difference you know. No offense meant. I' m sorry you went through the horror of being persecuted by believers. But that's not new, Judas betrayed Jesus that resulted to His crucifixion. That's what faith is all about, believing in God no matter the circumstance. That's what Jesus did and that's what I recommend for your situation. Faith is based not on feelings or situations but on a decision. The decision to follow Christ.

Revelations 22:18-19
I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.

the Bible is written for the salvation of mankind

Ephesians 1:13
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

you have to be glad if you are being persecuted, yelled at, and spit on.

1 Corinthians 1:28
And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

Matthew 5;10
Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

im sure that those who persecute you are not true believers.

because believers are supposed to be meek and lowly in hearth

Matthew 11:29
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

keep on reading the Bible, and you will get to know how great and good God is.
