Joseph Smith said that a person "would get nearer to God by abiding by [the Book of Mormon's] precepts than by any other book" (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 194). Just what are those "precepts" from the Book of Mormon that God wants you to follow that cannot be found in other books like the Bible?

I concur with cadisneygirl. I've read the Book of Mormon, the New Testmament, and much of the Old Testament, and I find that there are doctrines of Christ's gospel that are more clearly spelled out in the Book of Mormon, like teachings about the resurrection and the atonement. There is a lot of amazing counsel given, and a wonderful story of Christ appearing to the inhabitants of the ancient American continent.

Both the Book of Mormon and the Bible, hand in hand, have brought me closer to Christ. They're not opposed to each other, or competing- they're both witnesses of the same Savior, and both proclaim his gospel!

The book of Mormon teaches a much more direct link between the law of Moses and the mission of Jesus Christ. It also clarifies some doctrines that have been debated by other religions for years. The idea of the Trinity versus a godhead is clarified. The purpose of Adam and Eve and their deception by the serpent is clarified. The concept of works and grace is clarified as well. Even baptism is taught and infant baptism verses baptism by immersion of people who are able to make the choice is addressed. Most important, it serves as a witness to the literal ressurection of Jesus Christ, as opposed to a figurative one that some religions teach.

In short, the Book of Mormon clarifies every biblical debate you have ever seen or heard between those of varying Christian faiths.

It focuses its message mainly on Christ and his teachings. The Bible has a lot of good in it and is truth but it sometimes is a bit more difficult to interpret and goes off on more traditional tangents then straight out doctrinal truths. The Book of Mormon tends to cut to the heart of the doctrine of Christ. Both books are scriptures and written by prophets of God. Both books will lead you to God. The book of mormon cuts to the point a little more clearly and lays it all out. The doctrines are the same. The teachings are the same. The pre Christ people left the nitpicky laws behind and focused more on the spirit of the law. The Jewish people started coming up with some interesting laws that really didnt have a lot to do with the spirit of Gods law. The Book of Mormon focuses more on those teachings of Christ and Gods church that will directly lead you closer to both of them.

If you read the Book of Mormon and the Bible you will get more of an understanding of what I mean. Sometimes I read the comments from people that have claimed to have read the book of mormon and dont get where they get some of the things they claim if they actually read it. The Book of Mormon is all about the teachings of Christ. Its the anticipation of Christ, the actual teachings of Christ, and the words of Christ and the changes after Christ comes and teaches the people of these changes. Then people turn around, claim they read the book and say we dont believe in Christ. I dont understand that.

Joseph Smith chanced on Golden plates. it is not any longer uncommon in case you learn slightly of the historic previous of Jerusalem and the encompassing cultures. around those areas there have been various finding of a elementary historic previous of that area on steel plates. the reason the plates have been hid lower back in the previous international have been because of the fact civilization might desire to be conquered. The victors tended to smash all historic previous books and creat their own historic previous. The civilization hid important record to maintain their historic previous risk-free. that comparable theory applies to the golden plates in case you examine the e book of Mormon. those with dark pores and skin are no longer regarded on as sinners. That false impression arrises from our historic previous that human beings of dark discent might desire to no longer carry the priesthood (authority of god). they might develop into contributors of the church and take part in all activites yet might desire to no longer recieve the priesthood. i'm unsure why, so do no longer ask. i comprehend that comparable issues befell in the bible however: Acts 10- the full financial disaster is approximately how Peter gets a revelation that now they might desire to hold forth the gospel to the gentiles. they did no longer till now. Acts 11:19 "Now they that have been scattered out of the country upon the persecution that arose approximately Stephen travelled so a techniques as phenice, and Cyprus and Antioch, preaching the notice to none yet unto the Jews merely." This scripture specificlly states they could merely carry forth to the Jews. What with regard to something of they human beings? They got here later. i do no longer comprehend why God arranged it that way. Nor will I 2d wager him. a matching element befell in the LDS church. various years exceeded mutually as darker pores and skin might desire to no longer carry the priesthood. yet our prophet recieved a revelation, merely like Peter had, that it became now time to allow them to hold the priesthood as nicely. you may question me different question with regard to the church in case you like, i do no longer strategies.

The gospel is far more clear and laid out in more depth in the book of Mormon than in the bible. I love the bible, but it is somewhat choppy. You can definitely tell parts are missing. Why don't you read the book of Mormon and find out for yourself.
