bearsy is an effin hippie.

if "your friend" is in ait, he or she will go to fort knox, ky or fort sill, ok. The best thing to do is turn yourself in to the nearest active duty military installation. Tell the guards at the gate you are AWOL, and they will take you to the MP station and they will, in turn, get you to Knox or Sill, depending on which half of the country you turn yourself in. My source, I work for an AWOL apprehension unit.

As the AWOL officer from FLW, Mo for a while here's what will happen if you went AWOL and are gone more than 30 days you have a fellony Warrant for your arrest and you can turn yourself in to the cops and you will sit in jail until the MPs get to coming to pick you up. If you have been gone less than 30 days report to the nearest military base and find the MPs and tell them that you are AWOL and will be transported to your unit. If you are gone less than 30 days you will go back to your unit and they will decide what to do with you.

responses: Steven B- I think that the point was how to turn yourself in not how to go.

BearsysRevenge-Our military is a volunteer military the point is that you sign a contract when you enlist and you can't just violate a contract. You say the things you say because you don't have what it takes to be in the military so don't enlist, don't give ignorant advice that will get people in serious trouble without any kind of knowledge about the truth. Your right you can't be held at any job (unless you have a contract) but you also can't just violate a contract and not expect concequenses.

iluvdeathndestruction- Where do you get that idea that you can just quit the military up to the first month??? That's a total lie, you can get chaptered out on a failure to adapt in the first month easier than after that, but you don't just quit. Also they can and will do stuff to you

If you go AWOL, you have broken the law.

If you choose to turn yourself in, you may do so at any police department or military station which is open.

You may even, if you wish, call the local police dispatch and ask to have someone come arrest you and pick you up.

AWOL turn-ins are not an emergency though, so please do not use 911 to report yourself.

--------------

You need take nothing with you. However, some form of ID would be a good thing of course. In fact, as little as you take with you as you can is probably best, as the rest will go into holding while you're in jail.

You do not need to be in uniform. Simply turning yourself in and stating that you are an AWOL member of whichever branch is sufficient. The police station will contact the nearest military station for further instructions if you turn yourself in at a police station. If you turn yourself in at a military station, you will likely be held in the brig by the MPs/SPs.

------------

If your friend is in AIT and thinking about AWOL, he should very much speak to his counselor or drill sergeant.

In many cases, the military would rather washout someone who does not wish to be there than force them to stay against their will where they may become a morale issue. With the Army's manning problems (ie Iraq), don't count on this working.

Even if it does work, don't expect an Honorable Discharge in such a scenario. At best, you might get a neutral separation, but seriously, be planning for a dishonorable discharge.

What are you saying?
Did you go AWOL?
If you did you can go to any recruiters office or police station, you can also contact a JAG officer at your military base through google search.
If you have leave orders there should be a contact number on the papers.

Depends on the branch of service. Contact or go to the base nearest to you and surrender to the MP's at the gate, or just go to the local PD and tell them you are AWOL. They'll detain you and contact the military.

If your friend decides to go AWOL, as soon as he/she does, YOU call the police, or MP/SP/SF from the base/post that your friend deserted from.

If your friend decides to turn himself in: simply go to any law enforcement office.

Tell your friend to man up and fullfill his oath that he made to the country when he enlisted. If he is lucky, maybe McDonalds will hire him with a dishonorable discharge.
