Water and the word. In the name of God--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Baptism was important enough that even Jesus was baptized. You might want to read about it in the Bible and talk to a minister about it. God Bless you and the child...BTW Christening and baptizing are synonymous.

Friend, there is not one single reference in the Bible that teaches that babies need to be baptized. Every person baptized in the New Testament made a confession of faith, of believing in Jesus as the son of God. Babies can't do that. The Catholics have added this little 'bonus' because the teaching of 'original sin' became popular. This teaching tells us that we are all sinners at birth. During the times of the plagues, folks were worried that their children might die and go to hell, so the church began baptizing them, because it was believed that baptism was the way to salvation. It is- but not without the confession of faith by the person getting baptized.
I suggest you raise the child in the Lord, teach them about Jesus, and let them make the decision to receive Christ and be baptized when they are old enough to make a personal confession.

Talk to your parish priest, take some classes of preparation, find a suitable godmother and godfather.
