it would be a horrible idea, because we would have a hundred thousand turds that don't want to be here. Its hard enough to get anything done as it is. What I would do is *****, especially on yahoo answers.

I'm not sure. I am a national guard soldier serving my second tour in Iraq, and I have thought about this a lot. The military is certainly streched thin right now, and there aren't enough soldiers. I have met many people that were drafted during Viet Nam that ended up making a career out of the military. On the other hand, no soldier wants to be standing next to the guy that doesn't want to serve. Most soldiers (that I know) don't really want to be here or in any other war for that matter, but there is an even stronger desire to serve even at the cost of being in the middle of the war. GEN MacArthur stated that the soldier above all others prays for peace (probably not an exact quote, but you get the idea). I believe that is true. I think that if more Americans served, we would be a lot more judicious with the use of our military. I, for one, am very proud of my military service, and I think that the experiences I've had have made me a better citizen of the United States and a better person. On the other hand, I have a wife and three kids that I miss very much and I would much rather be home with them. In the end, a draft would help the lagging numbers, and I think a lot more people would have a greater appreciation of their freedoms. On the other hand, you would also end up with lot of soldiers that don't have the willingness to lay down their lives for their friends (greater love hath no man....)

ok ive been serving since before the war started or was even thought of, i feel as i always have felt that every person should compleate at least 4 years of service. the great things that you can get out of serving. The service i think would also make the country as a whole alot stronger in tearms of patriotism. i think that alot of it now my be a pseudo patriotism and not as heart felt as many would like to think.
The reason that people are afraid to join nowadays is because Americans are soft and coddled behind mommy and daddy. Grown men and women asking their parents if they can go to join the military and when the mom or dad say no your going to collage and the kid stands down it shows no backbone and that is why i believe that todays youth is growing weaker. Dont get me wrong but i do believe that there are still a good deal of men and women standing ready to do what they fell right for their country, but i dont feel it is enough to keep our country strong on the foundations that our great country was built upon.

well, really there is not much of a choice , but Bush is screwed up anyway. he just wants something on his record of being pesident is all. I bet he realy doesn't care that much. I think we're going to pull out of this war. Personally if i got it i would go through training. you can't just go you have to train anyway which takes a couple of months. Then you take what they give you try not to get a job that will end up killing you if you don't want to do it. honestly this is life you can't hide from the goverment for long, not without jail time. what would i do personally i wouldn't i can't because i have a perfect excuse not to go.

Like any Patriot, answer the call, serve with honor and pride(again)!
Actually, if a draft were in enacted, I would have been recalled anyway.

the draft would be ok for awhile..I served during the last draft...there were some sorry people trying to pass themselves off as soldiers and they were a drag over the long run to real soldiers....I got tired of listening to them whine

I'm going to basic in two months, of my own volition obviously... but if there was a draft, I'd tell the government to go **** itself. If I'm going to be murdering people and/or dying, I'll do it for my own damned reasons.

I would have no problem, seeing how i have been active duty for 4 years now, and already experiencing combat and plenty of field time as infantry, its not as bad as those selfish hippie kids think it is.

i personally think that more people should join on their own free will or that we need to make it a requirement that everyone should join after school due to the knowlede respect and ethics you aquire while in the service i joined just out of school and its changed my life for the better so to awnser your question yes i would support it completly
