My silky terrier had a flea on him and I don't know where it came from. We keep him in the garage and only put him out in our front yard once in a while. What is the best way to prevent this one flea from turning into a million. I take him to the groomer's on a regular basis for a bath and haircut.

advantage or frontline for the vet. ask a vet what the best treatment is for your dog. Oh and by the way just because they groom and bathe him doesnt mean they flea bathe him. Alot of the "puppy salons" use stuff that just cleans well and smells good.

You keep him in the garage all the time and only let him in the front yard occasionally? Hate to say it but it doesnt sound like a great life on the dogs part. Dogs need room to run and companionship.

It came from outside, in the world, where bugs live! Animals don't even NEED to go outside to get fleas, fleas enter houses and garages looking for a meal - they can sense animal's body heat and breath.

You can prevent this becoming an infestation by using a proper treatment from your vet like Frontline, Advantage, Revolution or Advocate.

I agree with the others.. dogs need companionship and shouldn't be left alone for long periods of time and let out only to use the restroom, they also need lots of activity.
You can try shampooing with a flea killer, that's what i do with my dogs if I find a flea. But not all the time because it's not a problem and it tends to aggravate their skin and make their coat dry.

Use frontline. Also, why do you keep your dog in the garage ? They are social animals, your going to end up with behavior problems.

keep the poor dog in the house. there can be various types of insects in the garage as well as outside. just bathe him regularly. Interact with him more outside. it is good for them to be social with them.

Usually, where there's one there's more. Next time at groomer mention so they can help him. Be better if you go back sooner but call the groomer at least.
