I recently took my '95 Nissan Altima in because it started violently shaking. I was told the distributor was leaking oil and therefore throwing things off. I paid $45 to have the distributor cleaned (the only charged me for labor). However, they advised that I look into selling my car because a new distributor could run up to $500-600.

Any advice? Should I look into a new car? Any idea on how long this repair will last? Should I buy a new distributor?

Just washing oil out of the distributor works for a while unbolting the distirbutor cap and removing the rubber cap seal makes the tempoary repair last longer. You might look into some newer cars. Your car is in its teenage years and you know how troublesom teenagers can be?
