The snip:
RIYADH - A leading authority of Saudi Arabia's hardline school of Islam has condemned camel beauty contests as evil, saying those involved should seek repentance in God.

Camel pageants have become major events in the desert kingdom in recent years as tribes hold ever larger competitions, with bigger prizes and wider publicity.

...

"Everyone must repent of these acts from which no good can come because of its evils, and they should beg forgiveness from God," said a fatwa, or religious ruling, issued this week by Sheikh Abdul-Rahman al-Barrak and a lesser-known sheikh.

im a saudi citizen and Yes, sadly there are these old fuddy duddies (yes thats what I call them) that seem to not want to have fun anywhere.. they seems to live, walk, talk and spout nothing but religion and everything that would make you happy even in a moral way is bad to them.. I suspect they live their boring lives out and feel jealous of the rest of us that can be a morally sound person, but yet have fun in life which God intended, but these doofuses want everyone to suffer like them.. They will make "rulings" up against everything and say "its the law"... I cant stand them... They are not only here, Im sure there are hyper Christians in the west just like this...

Didn't people on the days of prophet Muhammad PBUH have Camel racing competitions? God, can we find anything in the Quran or the Hadith about Camel pageants? NO! But some of those extremists hate their lives and are madly in love with trying to make other people's lives worse.

I don't get it. What is life without the opportunity to enjoy it -- enjoying beauty wherever you find it is great -- even if it is in the results of the best camel bloodlines and breeding. It's an accomplishment not to be ashamed of. I don't get what's wrong in the celebration of being alive and human and how the joys we find in earthly things can connect us to the sublimely spiritual. I feel sad for them. But, it isn't just Islamist fundamentalists and reactionarys who feel that way... there are a lot of religious fundamentalists and sects who have the same beliefe that pleasure and fun in life is somehow sinful.

There is another angle to the issue.
What started out as a Beauty Contest ended up close to a tribal war. Loosing tribes cried foul, threatened to kill judges as well as other contestants.
Do i agree that it has to go to the extent of getting a fatwa to stop this? No... I would have locked up those that didnt want to play by the rules.
It is sad that tribal pride overtakes common logic and Islamic teachings

it somewhat is known properly that to develop this question, you have made the camels as 'pretext'. Even you forgot that animal elegance shows are very plenty conventional interior the West ( u look very plenty biased for them ...!!) those variety of questions would desire to be raised with the aid of the "women people" of that distinctive society or faith. If adult adult males such as you develop this question ... issues will easily be mis-understood - one rationalization would come which you're feeling sorry for no longer having seen the Muslim women people "uncovered" .. !! think there's a query like this : Why the Western women people disclose themselves to the utmost accessible even in chilly climate while their adult adult males gown themselves finished lined ....?? Write down the respond in ur added ideal now ....!!
