I recomend Dodge Ram 2500 I just got mine 2 months ago, 2007 quad cab, long bed. I had a 2000 and i put 278000 K miles on it and trade it in for this new one, they go for ever. Ford is not bad eather but they got problems, and chevy i thik their transmission called Allison is nice, but its overpriced, On Dodges you can get a nice 2005 diesel even with 150000 K miles you got another 150000 K miles to put on it. I hope i helped a little

Diesels are not terrible as posted here, but I will concur that diesel cadillacs and all the early "hurry up" GM diesels were garbage. But to condemn all diesels based on those cars is like saying that sex is absolutely awful and you should not do it, because at some point in your life you slept with a farm animal and it was terrible. Those early engines and early diesels from the early 80's were a hurry up measure, and not properly engineered, and Gm should have been ashamed to call them diesel engines. They were little more than converted gas engines. Diesel engines have been around for a long time and have a history of good service. This is why almost every semi truck has them. Do you think these guys drive coast to coast for millions of miles a day because those engines are garbage?

You have to really want a diesel to buy one. A diesel truck is made for extra power on low end pulls. 'muscle'. Other than that, it is pure ego. They do get better fuel mileage alright, But have you noticed the price of diesel lately? It's about 30 to 40 cents a gallon more than regular gas. So forget about mileage. AND the price for parts for diesels are in a class of their own. If you like diesels, buy one. I am one my third Chrysler mini van and my personal experience tells me if I drive right and keep up maintenance, it will last longer AND be less expensive than any diesel. And I get 24.3 MPG. Not 17 like Dodge diesels get. Just my opinion.

I really like my 2500 turbo diesel. It's a 96, and hasn't given me any trouble, until recently. My only complaint is it has a very stiff suspension. But when it's loaded, it drives like a luxury car.
I don't see how you can go wrong with a Cummins diesel engine.

any diesel is pretty good. They are a lot simpler than gasoline powered engines. On a plus side when diesel gets to be $5.00 like it is in some places in California you can go to Costco/Sam's club and get vegetable oil for $3.00 a gallon or you can go to your local restaurant and get their used vegetable oil and filter it out and get free gas. All it takes is about a $500-$1,000 for a complete conversion to run on vegetable oil in any condition but either way your engine will run fine with or with out the limitations.

Ive heard alot about the new German diesel's and I'm impressed, i.e. not as noisy and low soot. and m.p.g is better. and the German's have been driving them for year's, as you know they invented it, so I'd say try to find a German car . i just wish the American auto manufactures would catch up with the rest of the world,
