Not only are they committing incest, which is fairly gross, but in that situation there would be an increased risk that the baby would be born developmentally delayed (retarded).
Whoever said that to your friend, was implying in a round about way that your friend was retarded.

ok sometimes people joke about someone dating ther own brother/sister, but that is not to say in some families this does not happen. There was a story Oprah did where a woman raped by her father gave birth to her own sister/daughter and the daughter had some deformities to her skull because of the genetics so in real life it is not so funny for some people who go through this

when sibling have a baby together there is a chance that that child will suffer some kind of defect or mental issues. Retarded is a harsh and ugly word. Next time you hear the word retarded, let them know that they are people with feelings and have to overcome more challenges then they can possible imagine.

Because of inbreeding the child has a greater chance of being deformed in some way, mentally and/or physically. If someone says your parents were brother and sister, they don't mean it as a compliment.

The genes of siblings are extremely similar which can increase the occurrences of genetic defects. The purpose of breeding is to create stronger offspring by using a variation of genes different from yours.
Some real life examples of this can be found in the past, when pioneers decided to settle in the Appalachian mountains they became isolated from the rest of society. As a result it was typical of them to marry into their family and experience defects such as retardation.
Also many purebred dogs such as Dalmatians are often born deaf or blind. This was also a problem among royalty who only married each other, they tended to suffer from bad health and had shorter life spans.

There is no guarantee of retardation. If a family is a carrier of a particular disease, having 2 close relatives have a child together, those carrier genes would join to become an actual person with that disease. And yes that could happen with non-related people marrying but it is much less common.

When family members mate it is called incest. Incest can lead to mental and physical defects. If someone is saying it to be a jerk they really need to grow up. It is a very sad thing and most of the time incest usually comes from rape from a family member.

It was probably said just to insult your friend, but as for incest....
first of all its gross, that went out with Adam and Eve's kids......Secondly, the child could be born with birth defects, and not only that but live a ridiculed life. Honestly would you want people to know your mom and dad are brother and sister. AND IT IS ILLEGAL IN ALL US STATES!!
