Me and my fiancee will celebrate our first engagement anniversary on Feb 14th and still we haven't set any day for the wedding. why? we decided to take things slower bc we are both working to pay off for the wedding ( my parents cannot help that much) and i have still to move to the US which is not easy to do (getting the fiance visa) and plus the fact of moving to another country it requires for me to take some money with me. also my fiance wants a big wedding celebration (i want that too) hes family is HUGE and so is mine (even is not all of my family will be attending) and also the fact of living in a new house, it requires responsibility of payments and all that.

so what do you recommend me?

Most people's engagement lasts about a year so they get married about a year after the engagement. There is no rule, though. So, you can plan the wedding when you feel comfortable. It all depends on your situation. If you want to be married, you'll be just as married going to the courthouse as you will be with the biggest wedding. But, it sounds like the wedding itself is important to you and that's fine. Take your time and save the money...nothing wrong with that. However, you do have to think about how long you want to put off actually being married just for a party which is what weddings are these days. Congrats!

Usually a couple sets a date shortly after they get engaged - it's pretty average to be engaged about a year, because depending on where you live, things such as the venue and caterer need to be booked a year in advance.
Sounds like the two of you are just fine shacking up, so why the engagement - which is a preparatory time to get married?

The appropriate time will be when you have all your finances in the right place.

It is both of your desire to have a big wedding .. plus, you have definite plans .. which is steps in the right directions.

Those are your dreams. Work toward your dreams .. and don't give up on your dreams .. or settle for anything less.

You will know when you have your finances in all of the right places. It may take awhile to achieve - but it is possible .. and probably so worth the wait.

Your big wedding plans & dreams are the making of beautiful memories.

I'd say be patient for a while longer, wait til you have moved and had a look around your new home town for a venue, when you find the venue you like then you could ask them what dates they have available and choose from there. OR you could just work out how long it will take you to save for the wedding you want and then set the date from there.

When you can make the first payment on a reception location and can organize that with your wedding venue (a church or where ever) then you can set your wedding date.

You can do whatever you want to do. The etiquette guide is just that, a guide, you don't have to follow it and honestly most people don't anymore. I am NOT wearing a veil even though I have not been married or had children so to even things out it would be great if you wore one! :-)

If you wait for all that crap to happen you will be ancient when you get married, if ever. I think you two just like saying you are engaged and making all these big plans.
