Washington DC, November 8 (CNA).-Pat Robertson, televangelist and founder of the Christian Coalition, on Wednesday endorsed the socially liberal Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani.

"It is my pleasure to announce my support for America's Mayor, Rudy Giuliani, a proven leader who is not afraid of what lies ahead and who will cast a hopeful vision for all Americans," Robertson said during a news conference with Giuliani in Washington.

Giuliani, former mayor of New York, supports abortion rights and homosexual rights despite the Republican Party's official stands against such issues.

Robertson, who made an unsuccessful presidential bid in 1988, is also the founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network, the Christian Coalition and Regent University. Shortly after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Robertson claimed in a statement that the attacks occurred because Americans had insulted God and lost the protection of heaven by "allowing abortion and rampant internet pornography."

Robertson did not mention his differences with Giuliani on social issues in Wednesday's statement.

Where are the fundamentalists in this section? Why don't you answer the question? Are you now in favor of gay rights and abortion?

How a Christian minister can endorse someone pro-abortion when there are pro-life candidates is beyond me.

I think that the bottom line is that Robertson values Power over Principle. If he really cared as much about "traditional values" as he says he does (remember the '04 election?), he wouldn't have voted for Rudy who supports gay rights and abortion rights. Those don't sound anything like the traditional values the Religious Right was pushing last election.

But if you consider that Rudy seems to be the most likely candidate to win the White House for the Republicans, Robertson's endorsement makes more sense. He is hoping to give a boost to Giuliani to assure that a Republican ends up in power.

Bottom line, for Pat Robertson, Influence is much more important than Ideals.

It matter not, to me, who Robertson endorses. But I agree that it is an unusual move for Robertson.
But; things may change, but it looks like Giuliani is likely to be the candidate. The president cannot change laws made by the supreme court. He can appoint judges when an opening presents itself.
If Robertson believes Rudy is the candidate, it is better to gather supporters for him than to do as Dobson did. Boycotting the voting booth is a vote for the Democrats who promote all these things and much more.

Does Anyone Even Pay Attention To Mr Robertson Anymore?

This is probably not a good thing for Giuliani. Robertson is a joke among most Christian circles. Frankly, I'm surprsed that Robertson is endorsing Giuliani. I'm not sure what they possibly have in common.

Guiliani is a fascist. Robertson is an irrelevant twit.

Doesn't really change my opinion of either.

That is a good reason to NOT vote for Giuliani now.
