There's bit to discuss here. Basically, the main word is ahora as you've already seen. "Ahora es Viernes" simply means "Now it's Friday." But there's more.

If you get into spanish or travel around enough in Latin America you'll eventually hear the word "ahorita" which means ""very soon - in just a little bit." "Tengo que irme ahorita" means that I have to go soon.

And as one writer already said, you MUST get to understand the use of the simple word - YA. It means a lot in spanish. It's basic meaning is "already." Let me explain -

If you explain something to someone then you can say - "ya te dije - Now I've (already) told you." "Ya lo sé" means "Now I know it" which is exactly the same as "I already know it" or "Now I know." See what we mean? Don't leave "ya" out of the equation of understanding how to say "now."

Don't forget ahora mismo! Which means right now! "Ven ahora mismo" said by a mother/father to a child means get over here RIGHT NOW!

Now is ahora and right now is ahorita. Sometimes you will hear people in Mexico say ya and that also means now.
