its the nature of the mind to expect - expect happiness, glory, achievements, earnings, and even light at the end of the tunnel. expectation and hope are necessary but when it turns to greed you have a different ball game.

Expecting what? Not sure I understand the question.
As for me, I expect happiness if I am good and treat others well. (And happiness is generally what I get). Isn't being happy a form of living?
Now if you're asking why people are expecting the world to end (and worrying about that) rather than living and enjoying their lives right now, I can say I honestly don't know. Maybe they only know how to live out of fear rather than living out of love.

It is only expectation that keeps things / life going .To go on for ever , the expectation should be of something that is unattainable. perhaps. Is it for this reason , that religions make people belive in the unattainable non-existent heaven and hell.? Man lives his full life with some love , kindness, comapssion and peace ,with the expectation of going to heaven.and avoiding hell.
