ps3 music?

I have just discovered that you can copy music from other people on your ps3 via what i can only guess are local servers. What is the legal status of this?

erm
the only way to get music on your PS3 is to rip it off a CD or a flash drive.
It may be possible to download music directly from websites like mp3raid.com
but that is not legal.
