safely frozen in a small chest deep freeze??? It's nearly a year now and we still haven't cooked it. I think the 25 pound status of it intimidates us a little bit. Never had one that big before. Would it still be safe to eat?? It's been in the same temp. this whole time. If we can eat it I'd like to make plans for it. If not... I guess we'll have to throw it away. Let me know, ok, thanks and bless you.

I had a 16 pound turkey in my freezer for 13 months. Because it stayed frozen the whole time in my stand-up freezer, it was fine. I think your's will be fine also. I'd allow 3 to 4 days for it to thaw in the fridge, then rinse it and smell it. But I really think it will be fine.

Go ahead and cook it up and then package the leftovers in smaller packages so you'll be able to enjoy the rest of the turkey throughout the winter. Turkey salad (hot or cold), turkey tetrazzini, turkey casseroles, turkey for hot open-face or cold sandwiches or monte cristos...you get the idea!

Don't forget to boil up the carcass so you'll get wonderful broth for soups!

It won't be in any way dangerous to eat, but I'd rely on a fresh turkey for the holiday, and save the year old one for dishes other than turkey and gravy. It very well may have freezer burn, or off flavors gathered over time from the freezer, unless it is exceptionally cold or has little else in it. Either way, defrost slowly in the fridge and smell it. If it smells off, toss it. If it smells good, you're probably okay.

Defrost the frozen turkey contained in the refrigerator.enable 24 hours for each 5 pounds of turkey. Alternately, you should thaw the turkey in chilly water, replacing the water each and every 1/2-hour. be sure (that is needed) raw turkey juices do no longer drip onto surrounding nutrition at the same time as defrosting contained in the refrigerator.Aaaaaaaand practice dinner the negative defrosted turkey at present :)

I checked a few websites. And I have seen a few comments in here that answered the same question. 9 month to a year has often been the answer.

I would be concerned with freezer burn. I am not sure, but I think 6 mos. is max for turkeys in freezer.
