you leave them alone. I'm going to leave them there on that tree until they fall to the ground and rot ... but you leave them alone!

Stop that! Don't even think about eating one of them... or if you do.. I will banish you to an eternity in Hell... Oh yeah.. and all your evil lil ancestors as well ...... so now.. where was I? IOh yeah.. thats' right ... so unless you follow these other stupid rules... now lets see... lets start with 1) .... awwr forget about it..... I'll write you a concrete list and get back to you.

So you two... now stay the hell of of my sweet lil apple tree, Adam! ... yeah and that goes for you too Eve! Stay away from that snake thingy there.... or you will both be wearing fig leaves!

Does this sound like a mentally balanced deity to you?

Truthfully?

haha...I gotta be honest, I got halfway into the second paragraph before I realized what was going on here. I thought this was some crazy half baked question.

A lot of things about that book seem a little foolish when you word them the right way.

When the flowers open they will, hopefully pollinated; then they will start making apples which should be ready for picking in the fall. However, having just been transplanted, they may drop the flowers and not flower again until next spring. That would mean no fruit until the fall of 2012.

When you explain it that way, it doesn't paint a very flattering picture of God. The thing to keep in mind is that this juicy apple tree is growing in a Paradise filled with dozens of other juicy fruit trees. You can eat juicy plums, peaches, dates, guavas, papayas, pineapples, cherries, figs, pears, apricots, cumquats, persimmons, pomegranites or oranges. You can eat juicy strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, watermelons, canteloupes, casaba melons, and grapes. You can eat any of dozes of nuts. You can eat any of dozens of vegetables. You just have to leave this ONE tree alone.

Is asking people living in Paradise to leave ONE tree alone really an example of a mentally unbalanced deity?

It is a parable. You ask a child they can eat anything but one thing..they will desire it all the more.It was the snake that kept on about they should try it:temptation.
I personally think it is also a parable from when we moved from hunter/gathering to farming which required self-awareness. To this day there are remote isolated peoples who walk around nude( or almost): they also happen to be hunter/gathers.

Acually, that doesn't sound like a mentally balanced deity OR human author.

Great story, though. We should petition to have the Bible edited to tell the way it REALLY happened. :P

I have 2 green apples trees in my front yard. My dog thinks they are tennis balls. That he has trees that grow tennis balls. That's crazy. But very cute.

LOL..."I got me an apple tree."

I realize you are mocking us, but that is carrying the illiteracy a bit too far, don't you think?

No one says, "I got me..." anything except for a 3 year old.

You *do* know that the Bible never mentioned what fruit it was, right?
