I would like to cross different coloured hypiastrums to produce varied colours. Is it possible to do this or do i need sophfiscated equipment.

Yes just just like the monk gregory mendel did with pea plants...if you dont know hes the father of genetics

Hippeastrum? If so then this might help.

As well as the interspecific crosses there are a fair number of intergeneric hybrids like xhippestrelia the hybrid genus for Hippeastrum and Sprekelia. I believe there are a few nonstandard names used as well under Sprekeliastrum and Hippeasprekelia.
