Braces? It would depend on how old the boys are! There is no point on putting braces on a child's baby teeth, they are going to come out eventually! I know this is going to sound like I am backing your husband, but, to me, braces are cosmetic, unless of course, the child has a MEDICAL defect which would render him unable to chew food! Personally, when the orthodontist recommended the boys have braces, I see the only one who is going to profit from this is the dentist!! I think it would have been nice if you and your husband sit down and discuss these kind of financial problems between yourselves instead of bringing the orthodontist, your attorney and child support into the picture!!! You can't get blood out of a stone, and no amount of promises are going to get him to pay that 60% if you push him over the edge! He could up and quit his job, and you would be left with nothing!! Isn't that 60-% for EACH child? That is a lot of money! How come his insurance isn't covering some of these dental expenses? Again, braces are a cosmetic feature, THAT's a fact! As none of us knows how much your husband makes, the only thing WE can honestly give you is - our opinion!

It's been medically proven that children who's teeth have severe malformations such as overbites suffer later in life. They may have weight problems that comes from not being able to chew as properly or appropriately due to the placement of their teeth. Somehow it also connects to possible heart problems later in your child's life. And trust me, it's so much easier to just pay for your child's braces now while their young than see them in ten years wishing you'd done it.

When I see this type of deformity, it is a tell tale that the Jaw joint may be displaced. 150 or so years ago, a pediatrician in Paris published his views along these lines. You might want to research this for yourself.
