My, how testy people get when you ask a question about their religion. You judge my motives for my question without seeing the reason why I asked. I could be asking to become Catholic or looking for a religion to join and you would turn me away with you alls attitudes and degrading. The reason I said that no catholic has answered is because I came up with this question from a previous question that a lot of Catholics answered and I asked this question 5 minutes later.

The Bible is not their authority. The Church is their authority.

The adoration of Mary as the Mother of God (against Luke 1:46-49; John 2: l-5)

The esteeming of Mary as being a perpetual virgin - proclaimed by Pope Pius IX - (against Matthew 12:46, Matthew 13:55)

The esteeming of Mary as being sinless (The Essential Catholic Catechism, 129) - (against Romans 3:23, Romans 5:12, 1 John 1:10)

Mary is our spiritual mother (misapplying John 19:25-27 via Ad Caeli Reginam)

Mary's claim via vision to St. Alphonsus that she is "the door" in opposition to John 14:6 "I am the Queen of heaven and the Mother of Mercy. I am the joy of the just and the door through which sinners come to God." (Dictionary of Mary, 298)

"her manifold intercession [she] continues to bring us the gifts of eternal salvation." (The Essential Catholic Catechism, 172)

"Nobody can approach the Supreme Father except through the Son, similarly nobody can approach Christ except through the Mother." (The Essential Catholic Catechism, 214) (against 1 Thessalonians 5:9, 1 Timothy 2:5)

Gee, you gave Catholics a whole 12 minutes in the middle of the night to answer before a snide remark about our absence. Maybe we don't obsessively refresh the top page of R&S in order to be the first ones to pounce on a question (but it's interesting to see who does). Or maybe it's that we've answered this insincere "question" 10,000,000 times here and figure you're too lazy to check the "search" function. Surely you don't think you've come up with something that's never been asked before.

No. It does not spell out in so many words in the Bible "ask Mary to pray for you". Feel free to choose one of your first two as best answer with a hearty "amen", and another completely purposeless question gets archived away.

This is getting really old. You're judging Catholicism because you've probably been given a slanted opinion of Catholics courtesy of people in your church (pastor, fellow parishioners) who conveniently forget Matthew 7:1 when it comes to others' beliefs. Being raised Catholic, I was never taught to question the beliefs of other religions, so my church must be doing something right, eh?

News flash: Believe it or not, your religion has its own flaws, so why don't you try fixing those instead of questioning the beliefs of Catholics-- which you quite obviously do not understand and wouldn't unless you lived as a Catholic.

When Jesus was dying on the cross, He told John, "Behold your mother." Jesus also said to Mary, "Behold your son."
These passages say that Jesus gave John to Mary to be her son. Jesus gave Mary to John to be his mother. Here Jesus gave Mary to John, but John was an apostle and he was our representative. The apostles were the first bishops. So John represents us. Mary was given to John and to the whole world to be our mother. She is our spiritual mother. As such, we can ask our mothers to pray for us. I always ask my mother to pray for me when I am in danger or if I have something very important to do. As our spiritual mother, Mary intercedes to God for her children. We ask her to pray for us and we do not treat her like God nor do we worship her. There is a big difference. So this is the biblical basis for asking Mary to pray for us (I think). There are more passages like the ones mentioned by I am a catholic too. Elizabeth also said "What did I do that the mother of my Lord should come and visit me." So Mary is the mother of Jesus and as such she is very close to her Son. She intercedes for us and as she is the Queen of heaven and earth, her prayers are powerful before God. She is also the woman clothed with the sun written about in the book of revelation. So she is to do battle with the dragon. The dragon is the devil and the devil will be defeated by Mary and her army. We are the army of Mary. Through her intercession and her prayers to God, the forces of evil in the world will be defeated.

Because in John 2: at a wedding: they were out of wine....Mary told Jesus, and he reminded her that he had not yet revealed himself...yet, his mother still told the others, do what he tells you to do. So, Jesus turned water into wine, at his mother's request. Therefore, the catholic church prays to Mary to make requests to her son on our behalf.

i think the main obvious Scripture may be the Transfiguration of Christ in Matt. 17:one million-3, Mark 9:4 and Luke 9:30-31. right here we see the deceased Moses and Elijah come and talk with Christ approximately His life, what is going on now and what's to come again. The Apostles hear them chatting with Christ, see them and are in awe. people who've died in this international, yet are in Christ are no longer lifeless to us. God states that he's the God of the residing, no longer of the lifeless. St. Paul tells us in Rom. 8:35-39 that people who've died are nevertheless alive interior the physique of Christ, that no longer even dying will separate them from the physique of Christ. for this reason, all those interior the physique of Christ (which stretches from Heaven to Earth--Eph. 3:14-15) are alive in Christ. We see in Revelation 2 issues: The Saints praying for intercession, which would be unable to be on their behalf by using fact it somewhat is senseless as they're in finished communion with God and for this reason it is going to be on behalf of those in the international. And the martyrs below the alter. The Martyrs cry out to God for vengence for his or her wrongful deaths. This shows: one million. they are no longer deaf 2. they are no longer blind 3. they're attentive to what has got here approximately to them and that their deaths have long gone unavenged. those in Heaven are no longer lifeless. They understand what's taking place in the international, they'd pray for us and latest our petitions to God on our behalf. i think of a e book which would be of help to you'll be the Communion of Saints: God's acquaintances are My acquaintances.

I was raised Catholic, may I answer? Ok, it's my 2 cents worth, Mary said, "my heart doth rejoice in God my Savior". Since it is sinner's that need a Savior, I therefore determine her to be blessed AMONGST women not above them and that she like all humanity, was a sinner, and thank God she found a Savior, it just happened to be her begotten Son. "There is ONE mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus." James 2:5, it is blasphemy to pray to a mere human.

It seems to me that the Catholic church has a lot to answer for. Little wonder the Lord will destroy the Catholic church during the tribulation for the reasons given in Revelation Ch.17 V1-9
