Will it Hurt?
Are there any needles involved?(i hate needles)
Will i be able to know my results the same day?
Do they take blood samples the day of the procedure?

Thanks for all of your help? I am really scared about this.....I don't want to do it?
Both of my tests will be done on the same day! I am so scared i have made myself sick thinking about it??

I have had that procedure done twice. A piece of cake, a stroll in the park. Yes, they use a needle to put you to sleep. I hate needles, too and always pass out. The results usually take a week. The only slight discomfort is after the procedure your throat may feel a bit sore. That is because the camera goes down your throat. They do the tests at the same time. I guess one person on one end, and the other at the other end. You go home that same day. I don't like it done either but stomach cancer runs in our family. Please don't fret, you will see in a blink of an eye it's over. Take care.

I have endoscopies and colonoscopy every two years..and they just keep getting easier.

My doctor will not do both at the same time but the twilight sleep is the same for both procedures.

For the endoscope I can have nothing to eat after midnight. I always schedule the procedure first thing in the a.m. They do a drip in the vein and off to sleep I go. I wake with no pain...and know nothing of the procedure. My doc will let me know what he thinks due to his visual but a biopsy is taken and this result takes a few days.

For the colonoscopy you do a colon cleans, for me it is a few laxatives nothing to eat the day before but I can do broths and juice as long it nothing is red then and Marilax...I mix the Marlax in a large bottle of Gatorade and drink it down. I really worry about the taste but this has none...I am near a bathroom but by bed time all is over and then the next morning I get the procedure. The people at my gasto center are great...with my last colonoscopy I did or a least I think I did see the screen with a polyp...looked just like what I had seen on the internet...I went home and took it easy was a little sleepy but not to bad...the procedure is nothing to worry about...and they no longer have you on a table exposed...we are in a twilight sleep and we are on our side...nothing really embarrassing an not to uncomfortable. The doc talks to me after but it is a few days for the bipsy results.

If you are too anxious ask the doctor for something to take before the procedure. I am sure someone is driving you.

I know it is scary but I know it will be ok..

Good luck to you and I wish you well.

I am not sure what the endoscopy is for and where they would be looking so I can't comment on that.

The colonoscopy involves a fiber optic flexible light-carrying tube and a camera lens that are slid up your anus. There are no needles and no anesthesia and no pain but the word they use is "this may feel uncomfortable."

The worst of it is that you need to precede it with a lot of strong laxatives that you drink to empty your bowels so they can see the inside of your intestines. Now that spending hours on the toilet is what I would call the uncomfortable part.

It is a diagnostic test that could locate a serious problem before it becomes life-threatening. I think they are assuming you are low on iron because of bleeding from your colon so it is important that they see where the problem is. They can often cure it using a cauterizing tool that is part of the tube they are using - again no pain is felt. Even if a sample or a polyp is taken for study using the tools on the tube you will not feel pain from that.

You get an answer instantly since they are seeing exactly what is there that is of concern.

The day before you will get something to 100% empty your colon out. Be prepared for a variety of trips to the bathroom. (The stuff tastes awful) Usually there are no needles involved, but you do do have to get up on the table on all 4s (im not kidding) and you get a camera (not big) shoved up there and they look for polyps, lesions and so forth. Its tiring, and youll want to go home and sleep. You might have an upset stomach too. The results are in real time, so you should know right then and there. But do it, for your own peace of mind and to figure out why the lack of iron.

I had the both procedures in March. The prep was not too bad. I think that Fleet sells a mix that you take twice (once the afternoon before, and once the morning of the procedure) and it did not make me sit on the toilet for the rest of the day. In fact, I did not experience too much discomfort at all. As for the procedure, you are completely out. They tell you that you will not be, but, believe me, I did not feel anything, nor do I remember anything. The spray to deaden your throat is unpleasant (extremely bitter, as I remember), but you are asleep pretty soon anyway. Both procedures took about 45 minutes, and they took out 2 polyps. The bottom line is that it is better to put up with a little discomfort than to worry about what might be lurking down there. If they catch it early it is no big deal, and I would think that at your age it would be caught early.

i had the colonoscopy.. i will not lie to you.. information and knowing give you power...
it was not pleasant.. the worst part was the wait... it will be over before you know it.. and that will be that... it is more embarassing than anything else... there will be at least 2 people with you.. the doc. and the nurse... i found it completly embarassing... I was very happy to leave...

but, a few days later it was nothing at all. and I can talk to my friends about it...

trust me.. what you are going through now.. is far worse than the collonoscopy..

so smile.. and laugh at yourself...

Don't know about the colonsocopy, but I had an endoscopy and it was quite painless. It was done under general anesthesia (unconscious) and there was no pain, maybe a slight scratchy throat after.

I think in both cases your doctor will give you anestesia, so you won't be able to feel anything during the procedure (ask him/her about it). It's nothing scary - the anticipation is scarier than the real thing. Don't worry about it, it will be fine.
