Thank you for this question and an interest in the church.
We only want to be the church you can read about in the Bible in name, teaching, worship, and organization.
We seek to have scriptural authority for everything we teach and practice. The Bible says, “If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God…” (1 Peter 4:11) In addition Colossians 3: 16 says, “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”
The phrase “in the name of the Lord” means according to His authority. If we are speaking and our deeds are according to His authority, we must follow his instructions.
Jesus told the apostles that He had “all authority” and they should teach observance of all things He had commanded. (Matthew 28:18-20) This is the goal of the church of Christ, to teach and practice the things God has commanded in His word, rather than following the doctrine of men. “We ought to obey God rather than men!” (Acts 5:29)
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God! It is useful for doctrine, for correction, and instruction, and it can thoroughly equip a servant of God with everything he needs to know to be able to serve God, in the way God wants to be served! (2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:3) There is no man-made doctrine that we need to add to the Bible that can improve it. In fact, additions to God's word are forbidden in the Scriptures! (Galatians 1:6-9, 2 John 9, Revelation 22:18-19, Deut. 4:2, Deut. 12:32, Proverbs 30:5-6) As Numbers 22:18 says, "…I could not go beyond the word of the Lord my God to do less or more.” We should "learn not to exceed what is writtem." (1 Corinthians 4:6)
We should all strive to be Christians - nothing more, nothing less! (1 Corinthians 1:10-13) The Bible only makes Christians only and the only Christians!
The Word of God is compared to a seed in Luke 8:11. When you plant a seed, it produces after its own kind.
If I were to plant corn, I would expect corn to grow. I cannot plant corn and get grapes from that seed. If something else grows other than what is planted, it must have come from another type of seed.
The word of God produces only Christians when planted in good and honest hearts. If something else is created, then it came from another type of seed. The plea of the church of Christ is, let us be just Christians - nothing more, nothing less, nothing else! Let us only plant the good seed.
The denominational divisions we see in the world cause confusion. "God is not the author of confusion, but of peace as in all the churches of the saints."
I invite you to investigate the church of Christ by comparison of the things we teach to the Bible. In fact, compare any religious teaching to the Scriptures! That is how you can know if they teach the turth! (Acts 17:11)
Any church should not mind such a comparison. They should encourage it! Insist that your Bible questions be given Bible answers (with book, chapter, and verse)!
If you wish to know more about the Church of Christ, feel free to contact me.
I have included a few links below. The first is a free 6-lesson video Bible study. You can watch it on-line, or if you prefer, I can tell you how to get a free copy on DVD.
[By the way, please do not confuse those who simply meet together as the “church of Christ” with the “Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints” (Mormons), the “United Church of Christ”, the “International Church of Christ”, and the “Church of Christ Scientists”. These groups are not the same and they teach drastically different things.]

There are three Church of Christ denominations.
The one you are talking about believes that you must be baptized to accept Christ, there is no such thing as original sin, faith and works are necessary for salvation, and anything that is not specifically commanded in the New Testament has no place in a church service. They also tend to maintain that they are the only true Church.
There are also the Churches of Christ (Disciples of Christ or Christian Church). They tend to apply a more liberal world-view, and believe that anything not explicitly forbidden by Scripture is permissible. Otherwise, their theology is very similar to the above group. (Both were founded by the same people. Benjamin Franklin was actually a co-founder, as well as a missionary for many years).
The third group is the International Churches of Christ. These guys believe essentially the same thing as the first group, except that these folks have all the ear-marks of a cult. They practice very tight restrictions on their members, and employ a form of 'discipling' that consists of cutting off members from non-members and holding members accountable to higher Church authorities.

If you want to know go there and participate in some Bible studies. Don't go there just once or twice. That won't give you a well-rounded idea of what they stand for. Continue to go to Bible study classes until you have a good understanding of who these people are. That's the best way to find out what the Church of Christ believes/practices. Most Churches of Christ have 'new-comer' classes where they will teach you the 'basics.'

The Church of Christ came about in the great religious reformation in the United States. They based much of their initial teachings on the New Testament, so they focused on the life of Chist and the teachings of Christ. They try to steer clear of all the individual interpretations that were causing arguments between religions.
They believe in understanding God through the Bible and usually have additional Bible study groups outside of their regular "church" time.
One thing that you will notice in a Church of Christ is that they began with the thought that the human voice is the greatest instrument to God, so they don't usually have instuments in their services.
(PS. Church of Christ is different than LDS, which is Church of Jesus Christ of LatterDay Saints.)

They are considered a non denominational church, no headquarters(autonomous), heirarchy of elders, decons, and a preachers)(men only), no music, no choirs, no testifying, baptism required in the trinity to be saved, communion weekly, giving as felt led(not tithing), That's the basics. I was raised in it. It is too numerous to explin. I left @ 23 when I married. They were hysterical, nearly. They believe they are the only "saved" on earth. I divorced a very curel man 5 yrs later, also a sin, especially for a woman. I have always had "leanings" in the Apostolic/Pentecostal way. When I married to my ex I joined a pentecostal church. I then over a yr. progressed to join an Apostolic church which I'm still w/ to this day. I couldn't be happier. I feel like I have found the "missing link" I have searched for my whole life. The church of christ is a cult. they tell what to do,think, believe, say, etc. My parents,brother,sister-in-law are in that church locked tight as a drum. I've tried to just be an example. They refuse any Biblical proof. Mom says she doesn't want to know if she's wrong. ??????? dad just does as she says. Pray for us.

I go to a Church of Christ. What are you interested in? Email me if there is something specific you want. But...in general I'll just say we take the Bible to be the literal and true word of God.

I agree with Dances and Jocko. And, I'd like to add that most of the people who attend a Church of Christ congregation consider themselves to be "non-denominational" meaning that their church is of, and for, itself without any kind of commitment or hierarchy with other churches (they appoint their own leaders and don't have to follow the teachings of any other congregation). They also tend to be VERY strict (legalistic) with their teachings. Drinking, smoking, dancing, using musical instruments in church, and even clapping your hands during a church service are all considered taboo (and/or outright sin). Oh, and they take communion (the Lord's Supper) every Sunday.

The Church of Christ that's in the southern U.S., in general, believes in literal interpretation of the New Testament. Their slogan (unofficial, as they will hasten to tell you) is to "speak where the bible speaks, and remain silent where the bible is silent. They do not allow women to participate in their services at all, or to teach males past childhood. They are probably best known for their refusal to use instrumental music in their worship services, citing a verse that says to "make music in your heart" as their justification. They were once part of the same denomination as the Disciples of Christ, but split off in large part over the music issue. They believe in immersion baptism as a requirement for salvation (and tend to have unending discussions over salvation being by faith-versus-works).

You mean jesus and his orginal followers? They were certainly not ethnic jews and their ideas - and his - are strikingly similar to Zorastrianism, which was actually more common in the reagion than judaism. I get the impression it began among Syrian and Greek palestinians as a kind of movement then got taken over by local messianic jews for about a hundred years.
