Just been prescribed Prozac for PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), after Paxil bombed big time (that stuff is nasty!!--I believe my doctor called it seratonin syndrome or something like that), and it's in the same drug category, they're both SSRI's but I don't find as many horrid things said about Prozac as I found about Paxil.

So I wondered... what are the most common side effects? Have YOU tried Prozac? If so, what was your experience with it? Likes? Dislikes? Hated it? Loved it? What about the withdrawals... for Paxil it was the general consensus that the withdrawal was really bad. Is it bad for Prozac too? Are there any other anti-depressent medicines that don't have as many side effects or withdrawal symptoms?

thanks!!

BTW--yes, I am under psychiatric care for this, and depending on how it goes with the Prozac, I will and have been discussing this with my doctor. But I like to get personal opinions too.

It was okay when I first started, took about a week and half to really notice a difference. Then it kinda plateaued and my feelings were neither here 'nor there, I wasn't sad, but I wasn't really happy either, just kinda stuck in the middle.

Eventually, things took a sour turn and I started to feel really depressed again, almost worse than before. I stopped taking the pills and didn't refill my prescription, I started feeling better again after that and I stayed pretty much normal feeling for a month or so, a few bad days but not enough to make me wanna do anything crazy.

I didn't really have any withdrawl symptoms, besides feeling better and not so down, which is a good thing. My doctor told me to tell him if I was quitting the pills but I didn't, maybe I should have, but that is that.

All in all, it worked, at least for awhile, but it eventually did me no good, but it is my fault for not going back to my doc, I might have done better on a higher dosage or something, I guess I will never know...

GOOD LUCK WITH THIS!!!

Increased serontonin can make you less impulsive, less anxious, easier to sleep, and less randy. Sometimes doctors will prescribe prozac and wellbutrin to counteract the loss of libido. I once took some supplements that raise your serontonin and was quite embarrassed when I couldn't keep it up. Should use this as an excuse for your doctor to prescribe you some viagra too just for the fun of it.

I'm sorry I don't know the answer, but earlier today I was thinking about prozac for a few moments..

I was on Zoloft over the summer for anxiety.. I quit taking it because I wanted to not depend on drugs.

I just started on prozac. I feel great! I finally feel normal again (I had OCD and anxiety). Only problem is there are some sexual side effects (takes a long time to reach orgasm). Other than that it is wonderful!
