Stevens Johnsons syndrome is a dermatologic disorder, often times associated with sulfa antibiotic, barbiturates, and anticonvulsants use. Some cases are caused by a bacterial infection. Occasionally, a cause cannot be identified.
It affects oral mucous membranes and sometimes eye mucous membranes and causes inflammation and blistering.
The disorder occurs in all age groups but is more common among older people, probably because older people tend to use more drugs. The disorder is also more likely to occur in people with AIDS.
People are usually treated as one would treat a burn victim.
