Because Christians think they are God's gift to the world, and everyone else is going to burn in Hell. Classic examples are some of the answers you got to your question. Some of them want to insult you, and some of them have to preach to you, but none of them practice what they preach about the golden rule, or anything else, for that matter.

It really depends on the Christian. I consider myself a Christian and I try to treat others (here and irl) how I would want to be treated. I do know what you mean though. I've seen plenty of Christians here talk down to other Christians (Muslims, Jews, etc).
Only reason I can think of why some Christians would act that way is Pride. I'm guessing they think that people aren't as good as they are when those people hold different beliefs. What they don't seem to realize is that religion doesn't automatically make someone "good" or "bad". I've seen (at times) people with no religion act far better than some who call themselves Christians.

Oddly enough there were only two religions ever declared illegal by Rome.
1. Christians - because they claimed all Roman gods were demons, refused to swear fealty to the Emperor, refused to join the army, and tax problems I think.
2. Druids - because they did human sacrifice...of Roman POWs.
I have also noticed that the "Religion" section of a few bookstores should be called the "Christianity" section.
We all want to be right and as such we try to make the other people wrong, that is why Christians and others will talk down dissenting beliefs.

Yes the title is Religion and Spirituality and whether Christians talk down or up a Religion its still R&S. So what's your point? No one said this is Agreement and Spirituality, people have a right to voice their opinion. There are enough people who talk down on Christians here too. Why don't you mention them?

I would hope that Christians don't belittle any religions, but I'm sure some get just as riled up as anyone. I find much belittling of Christians myself as I peruse this site. It is just the nature of the forum that some feel insulted by another's answers. I understand that there are many differing beliefs weighing in, and if I don't have a cogent answer or if the question is just inflammatory, I just pass it by. No need to fuel the fire.

Good question. maybe you should ask one that does it. I would.
I can't speak for anyone else but I don't think I have talked any down. Forgive me if I have. i also do stand for what I believe though. Even Jesus was not afraid to offend the religious rulers of the time that were leading the people astray. He did not, however, offend those that were earnest seekers of The Truth.
Ah, Don't Sweat The Small Stuff. Just keep moving forward and leave the rest behind.
God Bless!

True Christians should regard other religions and the people who belong to them with respect. That does not mean we agree, but every human being has the right to freedom of religion and that is given by God.

very true. talking down is no good. Asking legit Q's is what this is for. That is why i try not to answer ones directed at who is not Christian, and try to not give my opinion on ones that I do not know about, and Just so you know, Christians are not the only ones who claim that title.

Apparently you are new around here....It is ALWAYS very noticeable to anyone with half a brain that it is the Christians that are getting the brunt end of all the intolerant comments here on Q & A ,....
Your one sided point of view is what is astounding..

I agree a few of them do that, and the rest act like they're the only religion here. The atheists do it too. What about the Pagans, the Muslims, the Hindus, Buddhists and all the rest? Enough with the theocentricity! (is that a word?)
