First rice swells in volume so make sure you have a pot big enough. Second rice is almost the simplest dish in the world its just 1 part rice and 2 parts liquid ( I like stock myself ) bring to a boil then cover and simmer 18 to 20 minutes. fluff and serve. If you are a beginner then I suggest you try cous cous its kinda like rice but its a pasta and it only takes 5 minutes to make. You don't even really have to cook it cause it just sits in water that you have brought to a boil for 5 minutes and BAM your done. Hope this helps you out.

Mine always does this too, you may want to purchase a pot with a tight fitting lid or as someone else suggested, a rice cooker. Just a tip, after the rice has cooked remember to turn it over to "fluff" it up so it's not so hard and clumpy.

Provably your heat source is to high. Take two cups of water, add some salt and a little olive oil, when the water start boiling, add a cup of rice (washed). Cover, and when you see vapor coming out, lower the heat to the lowest setting. Cook for twenty minutes. Fluff cooked rice with a fork and serve hot.

Use a very big pot. When the water boils, add the rice and remove the pot to a different burner, set on lowest setting, as the residual heat in the first burner will overcook the bottom rice. Keep a lid on it and don't peek for at least 17 minutes.

This is THE 10 point answer---- Treat the rice as you would pasta, use chicken or vegetable broth or green tea broth. Bring the water to a rolling boil and add your rice. Stir frequently and check the rice for doneness. Time will vary depending on the rice but this will work beautifully!!! Drain into a collander and drizzle w/ olive oil or butter and season with sea salt -----try it you will love it!!!!

I've decided to do away with stove top cooking rice-the microwave seems to be the easiest way for me and it always turns out perfect- not too soggy or too dry. The box of rice should come with microwave directions on the side of the box. Good luck!

Once the water begins to boil, turn down to heat until it is at a low simmer. Cover with a lid. If it still splashes turn it down a little bit more.
