I have an M1 carbine, and I'm trying to find out what year it was manufactured. The barrel is marked "Inland General Motors 1-44." Does this mean January of '44? The serial number behind the sight is "4777xxx" and matches the number on the stock. The stock also has on it, "STD PROD RWH" The sight is stamped with a "PI" Underneath the barrel it's marked, "Davidson S Greensboro NC". It has "US CARBINE CAL. .30 MI" on the front of the receiver. The bayonet mount is stamped "EM-Q" Anyone have an idea or value?

I've researched on line and have an idea but would appreciate any help. Thanks!

The M1 Carbine was designed by Winchester for the U.S. Military.Your M-1 Carbine "Barrel" (Only) was originally made by Inland General Motors in January of 1944. The RECEIVER was made by Quality Hardware in December 1941...However, your Carbine is what is referrred to as an "Arsenal Re-Finished" or "Parts Gun" and is not a "complete" matching" original G.I. contract rifle. It has been re-barreled and refurbished using various manufactured G.I parts then assembled and refinished. The Davidson S, Greensboro NC stamped on your receiver is a Surplus Military Rifle Distributor & Importer. DBA: Davidsons Supply, in North Carolina. Davidsons imported thousands of these M1 Carbines and M1 Garands back into the United States that were used in the Korean War. They rebuilt these rifles using G.I parts, and barrels and refinished them for resale as surplus firearms. Davidson's never was an actual military contractor that built any of these firearms originally..........
Despite this your carbine is worth between $400-$500

Note* The following is a list of ACTUAL government Contractors who manufactured war time M-1 Carbines (11 Total)

Underwood,S.G. Saginaw,Quality Hardware,National Postal Meter,IBM,Standard Products, Inland,SG Grand Rapids,Winchester,Irwin Peterson and Rockola

I think I answered this for you a couple weeks ago..... yes this weapon was manufactured by the Inland division of General Motors which made 80% of all M1 Carbines, the 1-44 means January 1944...... the M1 Carbine was manufactured by 8 different manufactures between the years 1941 and 1945 with 6 million made.

I can't tell you when yours was made, but I know that my dad has his from the Korean War still. It's just over 50 years old.
