He cannot be drafted, but once a term in the military has been served, there is a period of "Inactive Ready Reserve (IRR)". 4-8 years, if I remember correctly. Your husband COULD be recalled to duty if required under those circumstances. It requires congressional approval.

He will be IRR like someone mentioned. Usually on the hook for eight years. I signed up for 6 yrs active duty so there is two yrs after I am done that I could still be called back. If there was a draft he wouldn't get called back after his was past the 8 yr mark. I don't know how long its been this way but if you are in DEP delayed entry program, that times counts towards the 8 yr obligation.

Once you have served at least 8 years active duty and get out you cannot get called back to duty. You can do 4 years active then 4 years guard or reserves then that adds up to 8....

As you are in the Army for 8 years they would just activate you. However, if you join prior to 18 you do not have to "register". If you get out (separated from active duty) before you turn 25 you must register.
I do not want to hear "this does not make sense" even though it does not.
I like the part that illegal alien males are also required to "register".

When you volunteer you agree to serve a total of ten years. After you Active duty or Reserve or National guard service you are still part of the inactive reserve until the ten years is up. After that you are untouchable unless Congress changes the system.

I believe there is an 8 year total commitment now. If he does 4 years active then he has 4 more years of inactive reserve, during which time he is subject to recall.

No. You've, at that point, already served your country. However, if you are still in the inactive reserves you most assuredly could get called up.
