I know pre-Christian was Jewish, but what about pre-Catholic?
How about pre-Islam; what was Mohammed before he created Islam?

Pre-Catholic was gospel Christian. History records that in 313 A.D. Emperor Constantine I, the Great, decreed Christians to have legal right to practice their religion in the Roman empire. Later, Christianity was decreed to be the national religion of all the empire. This brought complete control of the universal, Roman Catholic church to the emperors of Rome, and after the fall of the western empire, to barbarian kings, bringing with them their pagan beliefs, customs and traditions. This is how Easter came to replace Passover, the celebration of Tamuz' birthday was proclaimed Christ's, and Constantine's Edict of Nicaea in 323 A.D. changed the day of Christian worship from God's Sabbath to "Sun"day; which the bishop of Rome affirmed, and Protestants, in an attempt to disguise the lack of biblical authority for the change, erroneously refer to as the Lord's Day, though John was obviously, in Revelation 1:10, envisioning the previous acclamation of the day of the Lord in verse 7. Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
These Revelations were sent by the same Jesus, refer verse 1, who, after His disciples had been accused of profaning the sabbath, Jesus claimed one sacred day as His own, Matthew 12:8. For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day, Mark 2:27 The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: 28. Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. Luke 6:5. And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. And Jesus' day of worship was: Mark 6:2. And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands? Luke 4:16 and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
If that doesn't convince you of the Lord's desire, then Exodus 31:14. Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death. Leviticus 18:30. Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am the Lord your God.
After Jesus ascended, throughout the book of the Acts of the Apostles, the Sabbath continued to be observed as the day of worship.
Acts 13:14. ... 42. And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath. 44. And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God. 45. But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming. 46. It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.
Isaiah 28:7. But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment. 12. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear. 13. But the word of the Lord was unto them precept upon precept, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken. 14. Wherefore hear the word of the Lord, ye scornful men, that rule this people
After the custom of sun worship, Constantine ordered the change of the Sabbath from the seventh day of the week to the venerable day of the Sun worshippers. Possibly choosing to become a blasphemer rather than a martyr, the pope sanctified the order in the Imperial city of Rome; to defie the emperor was futile, but he was guilty of blasphemy by claiming the ability to change God's fourth commandment.
Revelation 14:12. Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. ... 17. And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
That last verse of the chapter sums it up. The devil makes war with the remnant of the church which keep the commandments of God and the doctrines of the Bible rather than the traditions of man.
One example, the Albigenses, fleeing Emperor Dioclesian, exposed to the rage of Satan and his instruments, escaped to a barren and mountainous wilderness where they were sought out, tortured, and cruelly murdered by papal inquisitions, because they kept the commandments of God and held to the biblical testimony of Jesus in doctrine and worship. From 538 until 1798, the Pope ruled supreme, during which time Joan de Arc and many, many thousands, millions, of martyrs died under papal authority, burned at the stake and such unspeakable deaths, for simply holding to their beliefs which were contrary to papal decree.
The pope and his subjects ignored the commandments of God, establishing their own traditions. Thou shalt have no graven images nor bow down to them. Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. Thou shalt not kill.
2 Peter 2:21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment(s) delivered unto them.
After surviving that prophesied period of time, the commandment keeping church has become a minority, a remnant, like the early Christians, testifying to the doctrines of Jesus rather than the traditions of men, as He warned.
Matthew 15:3. But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. 7. Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, 8. This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. 9. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
Revelation 17:1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will show unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: 2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication/idolatry, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. 5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
Ezekiel 20: 12. Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the Lord that sanctify them.
24. Because they had not executed my judgments, but had despised my statutes, and had polluted my sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers' idols. 27. Therefore, Thus saith the Lord God; Yet in this your fathers have blasphemed me, in that they have committed a trespass against me. 30. Are ye polluted after the manner of your fathers? and commit ye whoredom after their abominations?
2 John 1:9. Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 10. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: 11. For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
This is how the world's largest and richest "Christian" church came to be represented, in John's revelation, as the great, blasphemous whore, and the "reformed" protestant churches, following in many of those same doctrines, as her harlot daughters.

Though he is said to have studied the Bible, Mohammed was never a Christian. He was and remained a Gentile who never understood the gospel.

Since the early Christian Church was the same Church as the early Catholic Church then pre-Catholic was Judaism.

The Catholic Church officially teaches:

When she delves into her own mystery, the Church, the People of God in the New Covenant, discovers her link with the Jewish People, "the first to hear the Word of God.

The Jewish faith, unlike other non-Christian religions, is already a response to God's revelation in the Old Covenant.

To the Jews "belong the sonship, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises; to them belong the patriarchs, and of their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ"; "for the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable."

Neither all Jews indiscriminately at that time, nor Jews today, can be charged with the crimes committed during the Passion of Jesus Christ. The Jews should not be spoken of as rejected or accursed as if this followed from Holy Scripture.

I don't think there is a pre-Catholic. Although we assoiate being Christian with being Christ-like, Christ didn't come until Catholicism. Considering everything in that area (the middle east, Asia, Europe, Africa) was all a mush before the continental drift everyone probably had their own religion according to the region which only differed slightly.

Think Islam is one of the oldest religions (if not the oldest besides Judiasm). It started in the middle East, moved to Africa, and over to the Iberian Penninsula (Spain, Portugal). Today there are a lot of Muslims in this area but not all practice the same track of Islam. It is possible that until certain people came along and organized religion there was no real dominant church.

But then again I suggest you read the story of the flood in the Bible and then find Ovid's Metamorphosis and find his version of the flood which was written before the Bible. Perhaps your answer is in the book itself. (BTW my boyfriend believes the Bible is a book of fairy tales told to children during the crusades. Given this, how would your question be different if you aksed what was pre-religion? This might be another way to get your answer.)

Pre-Catholic was Jewish. Jesus said, You are Peter, my Rock. Upon you I will build my church. And that Church was the Catholic Church. Not the one we know as the Roman Catholic but it evolved into that Catholic Church. The oldest Catholic Church is the Coptic, still alive in the middle east, Israel, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and the Orthodox Catholic.

The Roman Catholic Church came along later, after the schism.

so-called "Christian" sects came much later;

Mohammed was born at least 4 centuries after Jesus and for some reason he felt the need to not believe in Jesus as Son of God, so he formed another religion for some unexplained and unknown reason. While the islamic religion considers Jesus a prophet, they do not consider him the Son of God.

I hope this helps.

Pre Catholic would be Jewish. Catholicism is the universal Christian community founded directly by Jesus Christ.

Saint Ignatius of Antioch first used the term "Catholic" around 123 AD. Most other Christian communities arose from men after the Reformation in the year 1517.

Catholics were the only Christians for 1500 years before there were those protesting Christ's Church called Protestants and their tens of thousands of various sects. Christ and the apostles that created the Catholic Church were Jewish.

Pre-Catholic was the monarchical episcopacy of Jerusalem. The word "Catholic" was invented to differentiate individual churches ("a church") from all churches taken together ("the Church").

Mohammed was a well respected Christian prophet, when His views differed from the mainstream he was cast-out. Catholicism is pre dated by jewdiesm and Christianity it was changed to Catholicism because Christians were Jews who had a relationship with Christ.

Catholics believe that their church began with St. Peter.

The "jewish - Catholic - Christian" idea is nonsense.

Jewish -> Catholic(Christian) -> Catholic/Protestant/Orthodox (all being Christian) is a better "lineage"
